Man, that fits the definition of "criminally insane"!!! :cardie:

I guess it depends on what the psych eval comes up with--but if she's determined to be that insane, the most likely punishment will be commitment to a psychiatric ward for life. Preferably alone in a padded room forever.

That is truly gruesome, and sad.

Anyway, yeah, that's pretty sickening, but if anything fit the bill of actually qualifying for an insanity plea, this would be it, so I don't know if execution is really the way to go. But then, I'm opposed to the death penalty completely...
 
When are people going to figure out not to do what Satan tells them to do? It never seems to work out well for anybody.
 
Sounds insane to me. I'm all for killing people who deserve to be killed but when someone is mentally ill I am not sure if that is justice.

It's got nothing to do with natural selection, sorry. Not a single solitary thing; that's a really lame suggestion.

Now, the fact that she's a child-murderer does play into natural selection, since her behavior is not conducive to passing on her genetic heritage - a tendency to kill your own prepubescent children pretty much writes you out of the Book of Life.

The eventual execution of the woman, doubtless years or decades after she's been effectively removed from the breeding population, has a negligable limiting effect on her genetic impact on future generations. She's had her children, killed them, and due to the likely severity of any non-death sentence will almost certainly never have the opportunity to breed again. Even if she does, circumstances dictate that any offspring will be pretty disadvantaged in the competition for resources and mates.

If people get off on the idea of killing "bad people" that's one thing - but they should not throw around terminology like "natural selection" without thinking a little bit about what it means.

I've always found that kind of odd. How does an execution end up costing more than a period of imprisonment? Are the specific compounds and equipment necessary for the lethal injection just super-expensive?

I think it may be the appeals process, but correct me if I'm wrong.

But anyway, I actually don't think the particular delusion she had is relevant to what should be done with her. If she hadn't believed in the devil, it would've been "men in black" or "aliens" or God only knows what. This woman was clearly VERY mentally ill. While I do support the death penalty, if you are clearly, demonstrably non compos mentis, that's a different matter and what you need is medical care for the rest of your life.

Thinking things through before posting is not really your strong suit, is it?

People who fake insanity usually don't follow through with cannibalism. I'd say she's the real deal, or at least taking some really powerful drugs as the article suggested might have happened before.

Also, as sidious said, capital punishment is more expensive than life imprisonment when you consider the cost of all the appeals and so forth. But then again, it sounds as if you're just suggesting a cop should just shoot her on the spot, which doesn't even really deserve the consideration of a reply explaining why that's absurd.

Ah yes, the appeals process... I'd forgotten about that. Makes sense -- I suppose that would be somewhat costly.
 
That woman is seriously disturbed. Executing her serves no purpose. She needs some serious mental help and will likely be in an institution the rest of her life.
