Does anybody else think the omnibuses fall apart too easily?

There's something about the format (too many pages without a strong enough binding). Does anybody else run into this problem?

Not with Star Trek Omnibuses so far. I've only ever had one completely fall apart and one develop a few loose pages.
I think it depends how often they're read too. I try not to hold them open too wide and always make sure they have some sort of support. Usually means having it on my lap or on a table, not being held up by the covers.

The only problem I've had is spine creasing on really thick MMPBs. Or colour loss on the spine if I take too long to read them. I had to buy a second copy of "Mission Gamma: This Gray Spirit" due to cracking the spine and smudge the metallic ink. And "Destiny Book 1".

It might be that the publishers bought their binding glue from one Harcourt Fenton Mudd!

Seriously, in my experience Omnibus editions don't fare too well with riding the bus.
(and how many of us have missed our stop-engrossed in a Trek novel?)

My copy of "Prophecy and Change" had the cover come off of the binding almost right when I opened it. I just fixed it with a glue stick and it's been fine since.

I've been disappointed with Pocket's binding on mass-markets and trades for a few years now. I used to never crack a spine, and of late I almost always crack the spine. This depresses me.

Oddly I have more taped up MMPB spines than omnibus spines. Course I tend to have to open them wider to see the text on the inner edges of pages, too... I know at least one book is sans front cover, and another had the whole cover detached from the pages.

I've never had a problem with my Trek omnibuses. I've had a couple spins crack even though I am always very carefull when I read. Other than that most of the damage on my books was already there when I bought it. Like Warpath, which has tons of little tiny chuncks taken out of the whole cover all the way around. It's kinda funny too, because I saw it in the bookstore, and said it wasn't that big of a deal, but now it's driven me crazy ever since, and this was back when it first came out.

I'm cautious about cracking spines on Trek books because I had a few come apart on me.
Some would say I deserve it but those of us that enjoy a good cracked spine know what I mean.
