Flash Gordon (The series): I felt less traction being born.

Guy Gardener

This is what I can't figure out. SiFi the Network independently paid for "enough" of the Queen Sound track from the Movie made in '80 to make some awesome advertisements, mark me: before I started drinking, the highlight of my Friday Nights was singing along to the theme track of the Highlander TV Show... but Ads with Queen Music when the show itself is so penny pinching that it can't keep pace with the.... This bugger didn't'ave a chance?

I've just started episode 6, I'm not planning on rising till I've seen them all, but it's not as awful as i had been lead to believe which is why i was interested because I wanted to see some thing truly horrible when this is only as about bad as the middle seasons of Smallville after they lost all sense of direction or maybe the first season of Stargate, which means it was about at home on the SiFi and could have survived with a couple extra hundred bucks an episode, or it was made a decade earlier when such things were tolerable.

Like a tick, everytime they said Hawkman, I said Plough Guy. :)

You honestly like Ming: The middle manager? For what was supposed be be the main villian 9and a real Hitler-esque character in the strip, and all previous versions; of the 3 episodes I tried to sit through, this aspect alone was cringe-worthy. :)

His assistant had a villainous vibe, where i thought he might killMing & take over.

The 2nd half of the season, introducing Ming's secret son, really elevated the show. It it been like that in the beginning, it would be enjoying its second season right about now.

It was a cheapjack show but by the end when you look back on it it actually had a complete arc and actually had a proper Flash story.

shhh. I'm watching it all for the first time ever RIGHT NOW... Secret son? Yikes! Something to look forward to? Ming the middle manager isn't horrid, he had some decent evil rants back on the Strange Days and Black Hole High, and his major domo is as creepy as Klytus back from '80, and I am quite sure the t-shirt Flash was wearing an episode earlier was homage to the cartoon from '79.

I just get the feeling that Flash should have been a little you her to still be caught up and struggling over daddy issues, into that they should have cast a younger actor, more so that they should have got the same guy when he was a little younger.

WHAT THE HELL IS UNDER RANKOLS DRESS!?

Flash Gordon was the worst piece of shit ever made on the scifi channel. If one of their shows doesn't get good after a couple episodes then I give up on it. I'm not gonna sit through another Flash Gordon again.

Lord Vader said "No Disintegrations"!!

:)

Timothy Dalton had to be dead sexy with the accent to make up for his looks, but the scifi whore they got to play Baron who has bent over for so many franchises about starships, or it just seems like it... I like him, but i wish the girl playing Aura could act half as well as she was pretty she'd be winning day time emmies.

Serious? How little would it have cost to have hired sam Jones to play Ming? he was fantastic on his episode of Stargate, it would have been a magnificent turn about which could have hooked bums on seats no end.

"Okay, I'm not going to win Mongo Idol."

Funny. :)

The Flash Gordon series wasn't horrible from an objective standpoint, but was yet another example of disrespect for the source material. The worst thing they did was turn Zarkov into a neurotic wimp. And, of course, using the wormhole gimmick completely took away the Space Opera appeal. The rest of the characters-- including Ming, although they should have changed his name-- were okay, if a bit bland. But it was pretty obvious that nobody involved in the production of the show had a clue.

Oh my the bit where they're on truth serum... MARVELLOUS!

"Who's a better kisser? me or Aura?"

Now that's taking control of the conversation during some little bads floppy attempt at interrogation, what?

I feel as if this show is building toawrds something, and that nothing much is being left behind. like at at kleast the writing stage that some one actually has abit of heart towards the matter. I'm taking an SNL break, but I'll get back on track by tomorrow morning.

These two things together make no sense to me.

The show was bad, even if there was a classic strip called Flash Gordon, this show was BAD.

If you can get through the early episodes, which takes some doing, it is worth watching. No series has ever improved so fast, but no series has ever been so awful to start with and had so far to go to recover.
But by mid-season watching it was no longer a chore (reviews, so no choice), and by season's end I was disappointed that it didn't continue.
But some of the early episodes should be outlawed under the Geneva conventions: showing them to prisoners would be torture.

It's not contradictory. If the show were called something else, if the characters were given new names and there was no implied connection with the concept of Flash Gordon, it would not have been so bad, because it would not be compared to the original. But, clearly, nobody involved in the production had a clue as to what makes Flash Gordon Flash Gordon.

Flash Gordon started out absolutely unremarkable (bad even) but by the last half-dozen episodes the series had a proper arc going and was pretty good.

That's where you and I disagree. To me it was just bad television, regardless of the disrespect to the source material.

And there was Sam Jones in episode 8 barely recognizable and my god I'd forgotten how beautiful Ellen Kerplunck(sp?), I could totally see her and Zarkov's interview turning into nerd Porn.

I thought the aforeforetold secret son had shown up, and they were going to Tromeo and Juliet the poor bastard when the Actor/Puppeteer turned up and tried to mount his sister, but then Mig Strangled him with a Marrionette.

Dude proves he is evil quite well.

When that girl cut him shaving. Poor sod. Now she only has nine fingers.

I mean the production values are about the same as Andromeda but that show was direction-less, meanwhile a season of Stargate might be just as crap even though any single episode can be absolutely magnificent.

Baylin needs to get her Patrick Swayze eyes fixed, though I think the makeup department is more than high on life considering how many times they feel compelled to underline her eye liner.

Yep. He is Ming the Middle Manager, but middle managers can run death camps very efficiently, and that starts to work in the series.
Secret son? Lots more for you to learn - if only because they seem to have rethought that arc due to actor (in)availability.

Afraid I couldn't make it through the first episode I was so bored. To me it just screamed 'We don't really care about Flash Gordon, but the network is making us use these stupid names and characters, so we're shoehorning them into our premise as best we can.'

Oh I agree John, the pilot was atrocious. I could barely get past caring that he won local marathons but didn't have a sponsor so restored classic cars in his mommy's basement... it was just weird and making the love of his life attached to some gimp who was playing the part of precrisis Lana 'I know you're up to something Clark Kent" Lang, when that's exactly the same part he had on Smallville which, well that's kinda mastabatory in the afterthought that he is his own girlfriend thematically.

Just finished episode 18. there's three left and the secret son is all on boardm, but you ssay that he is going to bolt at the 11th hour? Who the hell is middlemanaging the show if they can't keep this guy on the set for a couple extra weeks if it's all the very very end? They couldn't negotiate a spitroast in a brothel.

I like Zarkov interrogating the Blonde evil scientists who used to play Maya on The Collector, i see that both she and the secret mother hypergynoapothecary Vestra were both in Watchmen as tiny tiny bit players which does have me wonder if they are dating? But then the Chief from battlestar was the postman in the pilot and he and Flash's mommy had some choice scenes in the first season of Battlestar, she almost made him cry, so I wondered if they were dating too? Couples seem to audition in pairs, it saves on gas.

but flash is doing something that Archer was supposed to be, he's meeting cultures making friends and alliances which fall back on one another and become beneficial to future stories. Everything seems to matter.

You watching kings?

I think this Flash Gordon Series wanted to be Kings if they had the money, not that Kings is Kings, since you can see what Kings wants to be and it clearly isn't because Kings doesn't have any testicles, so I'm glad that one is cancelled to, although frankly, I think Baylin should get top billing since flash Gordon just seems to be her sidekick most of the time.

What's up with the black just vanishing? Is it Mayweather syndrome?
