Star Wars Fate of the Jedi 2: Omen

This was one of the more tedious slogs in the world of Star Wars novels that I've encountered since the NJO novels. I really did not enjoy this book at all and consider it to be drek that made some of the more incoherent parts of the Legacy novel series look like prose of the highest order.

I will read Abyss and then promptly look forward to Imperial Commando and DeathTroopers.

For example, here is a list of the Bantam books:

Truce at Bakura. Boba Fett Trilogy. Han Solo Origin Trilogy. Shadows of the Empire. X-Wing Series. Courtship Leia. Thrawn Trilogy. Jedi Academy Trilogy. I Jedi. Children of the Jedi. Darksaber. Planet Twilight. Crystal Star. Black Fleet Trilogy. Corellian Trilogy. New Rebellion. Hand of Thrawn Duology. Young Jedi Knights Series.

Now how many of those were actually GOOD? :p

I would say Thrawn Trilogy, Han Solo Origin Trilogy, Jedi Academy Trilogy. Others love the X-Wing books but it's not my thing. And there's a whole lot of really bad books on that list.

^^ Are her ST:VOY novels like that?

As was said early ones were good, but her relaunch novels were really bad. I read Homecoming but my dog literally ate The Farther Shore. I never bothered to replace it because I couldn't make a dent in it no matter how hard I tried.

I prefer having epic series to stand-alones. Yeah the Thrawn Trilogy was stellar... but so many of the Bantam books were just awful. So I'd rather have consistency than a couple classics and a lot of garbage. This way it feels like a serial TV show of evolving characters and stories. I really enjoyed LOTF (except for the last book!) and I'm still looking forward to FOTJ despite this poor second book.

I'm still looking forward to it as well. I did not like the last two books of LotF (especially the Godawful Revelation by Karen Traviss) but I loved the NJO. It had its missteps but it was awesome nonetheless.

God, I'm so behind on my SW books. :( I think I've missed the last ten releases or something.

If those ten releases were mainly Legacy of the Force you didn't miss much. It started out good, but crashed and burned.

I too really liked the NJO. I also thought the Dark Nest was okay, and I enjoyed the first half of LOTF. But after that, the SW books have increasingly lost my interest. Except for the Darth Bane books. I also enjoy the Legacy comic books.

BTW, if any of you NJO fans aren't aware, Dark Horse is doing a comic set in the NJO timeframe called "Invasion". The first issue is out now. It shows some promise.

No I have all of Legacy of the Force. I am missing books like Millenium Falcon, Shadows of Mindor, the 2 FoTJ books, plus a bunch of Clone Wars stuff.

Is Coruscant Nights part 3 out yet, because I don't have that either. lol Must be time for a trip to the city.

On that list I enjoyed: Truce at Bakura, Courtship of Princess Leia, The Thrawn Trilogy, Jedi Academy Trilogy, I Jedi, Corellian trilogy, black fleet crisis trilogy, Hand of Thrawn Duology, Shadows of the Empire. IMO, the only weak stuff was the stuff written by Hambly. But everyone's tastes are different.

Oh yeah is anyone reading these new Clone Wars hardcover novels? I never got them because I was unclear if they were kiddie-aimed or for adults. ... Freman, Millenium Falcon is a very disappointing waste of space. It's basically an anthology of random people owning the Falcon over the past 50 years. Shadows of Mindor was very good. Coruscant Nights I found to be immensely uninteresting and disappointing, though I don't remember how good/bad the last book was specifically.

I've been "reading" the series through audio books checked out at the library. The first was really good. Had an interesting plot and spun the characters out into neat stories (though, I had some issues with Luke's actions towards the end of the story [and Han/Leia's subplot was pointlessly stupid]...but that is really minor).

The second book was a bit of a let down, because nothing really happened other than stuff that could have been condensed easily. Two more Jedi go wacky, the reporter is a jerk, Luke meets new Force people, the Jedi are bitch slapped again, wash and repeat. It almost seems as if this was a bridge book, as if they need other stuff to be set up for a particular point later on, so they just put all the "boring" stuff into one book to movie the story along.

Eh, I'll continue with the series as it still holds my interest.

The Han/Leia subplot is going to turn out to be important for sure. It revealed that Kessel is an artificial planet created by ancient advanced aliens... which decided to self-destruct when the Centerpoint Station blew up... which was created by advanced ancient aliens... and it sits at the mouth of the Maw where the series villain is lurking in a black hole... which is where the young Jedi who are now being driven insane lived as children. Ding!

I'm the other way around. I loved Millenium Falcon, hated Mindor and quite enjoyed the Coruscant Nights books, especially the last one.

What was it that you liked about the Falcon book? The only part I found remotely interesting was when they set it against the Invisible Hand crashing into Coruscant.

Are you like an alternate universe version of me? I was about to post this almost verbatim in response to Light, when I decided to read through the thread first instead.

I always hoped that Truce was going to be the opening engagement in a new war front opening in Wild Space, a kind of Axis to the (Soviets) Empire and (Allies) Rebellion. But the Ssi Ruuk never got revisted. More's the pity.

Then the New Jedi Order comes along and Del Rey decides the best way to establish their super duper biowank Vong as the baddest black hats around is to have them curbstomp all of the potentially interesting baddies from the Bantam timeline off-screen, as it were.

Shit, they ganked the Koornacht Cluster dudes with the stolen Imp sector group the same way, didn't they? Weaksauce.

I still have the West End Games Truce sourcebook kicking around somewhere. Sigh. Good times.

I liked the history and the new characters. I thought the characterization of Han and Leia was excellent and Allana was a good companion. I just found the whole thing really fun, if you know what I mean.

Agreed on all points as well. "The Truce at Bakura" was my first exposure to the EU and it led me to the Thrawn trilogy.

The Crystal Star, The New Rebellion, and Children of the Jedi were clunkers to me. I never read the last one in that Callista 'series' because the previous ones were so bad.

I'm a completist when it comes to Star Wars novels. I get them all (eventually lol).

I actually enjoyed this book for the most part. In the end it was the Sith sections that let it down for me. I would have been nice to see the Sith doing something Sithy, like capturing a ship, killing the crew, raiding a station/planet instead of just Vestara saying they did it.

It was short and I am glad I didn't have to pay the outrageous $60 that hardcovers cost in this country...rip off no matter the length.
