I'm turning 25. QUARTER OF A CENTURY old. God help me.

[Most people think I'm between 16-70...Seriously. One guy asked me if I was retiring (WTF?) to another guy asking me if I was in high school. I like to mix it up. I can be very mature (like helping other younger people and being their guide) to being very immature (does this paint tasty a little leady?). That's the fun of life.

 Indeed! For what it's worth, people always used to think I was in my 20s when I was 15-16, and always say I act about a decade older than I am. But then, I was always a fast developer...:)

I just have mood swings >.>

That works too! :)

I wouldn't go that far. 25 is just young adult.

I would. At 25 you still haven't lost the teenage "I know more than everybody else" arrogance.

Maybe, maybe not. Making a categorical statement is a bit, well, ageist. And for the record, I'm older than 25.

I haven't met a 25 year old yet that didn't think they know everything, myself included--14 years ago. I admit it. I'm ageist.

Whatever the fuck that is.

:bolian:

How do you know they thought they knew everything? Either you're a mind reader :), or there is at least the possibility that it's your own ability to make accurate perceptions of people that's faulty.

For two reasons. One, I have a 25 year old friend, and both he and girlfriend, aged 22 both come off this way.

And two: I remember that I was also exactly like that when I was 25. So was my brother.

Maybe it's not the same for everybody, but it's definately been so in my experience.

QFT

Oh, and to those 25 and under folks who think that "things are sooooo diferent now, older folks just don't get it, etc."; just because we older folks look at you and either nod, smile, but in the end, remain silent to your latest 'great idea on how to do/fix/get <insert goal here>"...It's NOT that things have changed so much, we don't understand or 'get it'; rather that we REMEMBER how we felt at that age when we did the SAME THING to our elders; and FURTHER realize that because of this, NOTHING we say will change/sway your opinion; so we'd rather just not waste the enbergy in a futile discussion.

We KNOW at this point that the ONLY way you'll learn about the 'real situation', is to try your brilliant idea, and then experience first hand, the fact it wasn't as good as you thought. ;)

(Yes, I AM generalizing, but believe me - the above finally struck me at around the time I hit 30. But at some point, you'll realize your 'elders' were not as 'clueless' as you believed when you were younger.)

What is with people bashing 25 year olds? Seriously.

Knowledge, the way people act, the way people think, it's different for everyone. Age is just a number. A lot of people learn to be adults at a young age. I certainly did.

I am not saying I am smarter than everyone my age but I am more experienced in some things than other people are and some other people are more experienced in things than I am. It has nothing to do with age, it has a lot to do with how some people grew up.

My best friend is a year older than I am and she still lives at home. My brother is 31 and just moved out of my dad's house a year ago. My younger brother is a year younger than I am and still lives with my mom. I was already in my own place before any of them. Between my brothers and I, I was the only one to graduate high school and go to college. I have been in a relationship for almost 6 years now. We are planning a family, a future. I have some serious careers I am considering.

I've been "independant" since I was 7/8 years old. I was making my own food, doing my own laundry. My parents didn't ignore me but they were busy with my younger brother and his hockey so I learned to do a lot of things by myself when they were out at his hockey games or practices.

Age didn't give me the knowledge and attitude I have. Life experiences did.

I dislike it when older people look down on younger people and assume they just like to party all day and night and have casual sex. Hate to break it to you but if not doing those things makes me boring, I guess I'm the most boring 25 year old on the planet.

I also dislike it when people assume older people don't have a clue what is going on in this day and age. My mom is 46, my dad is 56. Both know what's up with things these days. Just because they are older doesn't mean they don't know anything.

People need to stop this "younger vs older" crap. It's not fair to bundle everyone in the same category.

This is not directed at anyone in particular, it's just a general thought. People come from all walks of life and it's stupid to assume things based on age.

^ Your last statement stated it very very well. We're all different. Some people are forever young at heart; others are way too mature for their age, depending on how you look at things.

That's a rather small sample size.

Sorry to sound all chauvinistic...but why is a guy groaning about turning 25?

There are quite a few American men younger than you that didn't make it that far these past few years.

Now I'm not just a chauvinist but a real downer too.

Good lord people the thread wasn't "groaning" or "depressive."

Not 'people' ...just me.

You sounded serious on your original post. I skipped everything after.

By the way...I noticed you think teaching abroad will somehow help or change you. I really don't think it will. Travelling to other places cannot change you unless you are incredibly maleable in the first place.
By the way, I'm currently teaching in Taiwan. Thing is I never came here to run away from anything.

Ah I've wanted to teach abroad for years. I was serious in the original post, yes, but certainly not "upset" about turning 25.

What is with people bashing 25 year olds? Seriously.

Who's bashing? I'd love to be 25 again - had some of my most enjoyable experiences at that age. ;) :)

A number of people are.

I have never met a 25 year old who claims to "know everything" and I don't think I know everything so I am lost as to what kind of 25 year olds reside in some people's neighbourhoods and where this stereotype that we think we know everything is coming from.

Seriously, I have never heard of this apparent claim before.

They usually don't claim that they do. They just act like it. (The ones that this is said about I mean)
