The Ashes 2009

Crucial session - still think England may regret letting us back in the game when Collingwood and Peitersen were cruising yesterday, but Prior and Flintoff mitigated the damage a little.

They still need another 50 runs to feel happy though I reckon.

Australia obviously want this over with ASAP. Broad looks a decent bat, let's have him out quickly please :shifty:

Yeah, honours pretty much even, although I'd rather be in England's shoes than ours. Runs on the board are always valuable, particularly given no one really seems to know how this pitch is going to play later on.

Well we know now. If Hauritz is turning it 3 feet on the second morning, you're right, we've got big problems.

This important session was decisively England's. Very scrappy effort from Australia - too many half volleys and some very tired looking bowlers. Ponting in his shell as usual. Bleh. Hopefully that's our horror session out the way.

Speaking of Hauritz, he could have had a few more this morning - no luck at all. No wonder the guy looks like he's about to sit down for a root canal every time Ponting throws him the ball. He desperately needs some presence, some confidence. I really feel for him - someone needs to tell him to relax. Hopefully he can take something from his 3fer.

Stand by for the Phil Hughes chin music hour.

... and Hughes is already off to a flying start - 13 of Australia's 17 runs in the first 2 overs.

"I'd rather watch Janette Howard pluck Johns nasal hair whilst he's got a cold than ever see Nathan Horroshowitz bowl for Australia again"
That was from a mate of mine. Hard not to agree.

I reckon Hauritz out-bowled Anderson and Broad though - what a shocking waste of a new ball. Hughes untroubled and having a picnic on plenty of rubbish.

Still, ugly morning for Australia. :brickwall:

^ Thankfully the later two sessions were better for us. With both Kaitch and Ponting scoring hundreds, and also Ponting passed 11,000 runs.

Yeah, nice to see Katich in particular continuing to prosper. :bolian: But that first hour or so was disgraceful from an Australian viewpoint. There's been too much of that for too long and it could yet cost us dearly. England only need two or three quick wickets and they're back in this.

Edit: Thank you, Aunty ABC, for giving us frelling rugby league instead of cricket. :scream:

Well we've taken a few wickets but Australia are very much in the driving seat. I can see this match being drawn though, especially if it rains tomorrow.

^ That is what I thinking last night. Hopefully the rain stays away ... and Australia can build a bigger lead. Australia should be able to get around 550, if the tail wags.

Well, here's hoping the weather won't have the final say (we'll have the rain over here, thanks). It would be a bit of a letdown to see all our hard work come to nothing. Besides which, I'd like to see if our blokes can take these last 8 wickets. It'd be a good step forward for them if they could.

Back from Melbourne and ready to continue this weekend of non-stop sport with some serious slagging of the England team on my sporting blog of choice, TBBS. Let's face it - they deserve every bit of misery they get today, Day 4 was humiliating

Monty - love him, but still not a test bowler, and probably out of chances : out for Onions
Broad - all over the shop, nowhere near good enough : out for Harmison
Swann - might as well drop him too, he's just a dart thrower, and won't get anyone but number 11 out.

I heard the England commentators advising against wholesale changes, but what's the point of sticking solid with these guys going into Lord's - Australia's best ground? We'll be 2-0 and the series is as good as over.

Now, how good is Pietersen? A big innings from him is all that can save England today.

Yeah, and he's not the worst offender by far - what were Prior and Strauss thinking? Two of the worst shots you'd ever see. Oh, it's beyond ugly now.

I think England have decided that a Innings defeat is the way to go! Some of the play and misses have been as bad as those that have got batman out! This is why I think the Aussies will win the Series as they know how to play in almost any scenario...

9 overs left, England has 1 wicket left and are 4 runs behind...come on Australia.

I'd like a result but I just have a feeling that England will do enough for a draw.

The English team should make sure Collingwood doesn't buy a drink tonight, his effort on the fifth day really made it possible for England to draw the game.

Looking forward to Wednesday and I hope we'll see Johnson return to his form of the test series against SA.

*Comes out of self-imposed exile just long enough to snigger faintly. Australia were undoubtedly the better team... except they couldn't bowl out Monty Panesar. Who'd've thunk it?*
