Dear god Quantum of Solace is so boring

I'm halfway through and I've stopped it for lunch, but I really don't have much inclination to start watching again. Daniel Craig is just so dull, the action sequences have been ripped straight out of the Bourne films, the villains are pathetically one-dimensional and the story is plodding along from one action sequence to another without any guts in between.

Where are the girls? Where are the gadgets? Where's the charisma that made the original films so great???

Seriously, does the film get any better?

I watched it in BluRay recently, I saw it in the theater and didn't think it was so great but thought I'd give it a second try and....Well, it looks gorgeous in BluRay but god daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn is it boring. The pointless intercutting to the horse race during the foot chase is so freakin' lame, there's zero payoff.

The first time I saw it I had no idea why Bond was going to these different countries so this time I tried to pay more attention and I still feel like the movie is about 2 steps ahead of me. Well, actually no, that would imply it's a smart movie, instead I should say, the plot just isn't very clear.

So to answer your question, no, it doesn't get better. Gemma Arterton is sexy though. I'll give the movie that.

Where's the naked Daniel Craig? Answer - nowhere in this movie. So, no, it doesn't get better. It is not worth watching. Use the disc in your garden to frighten the birds away.

It's a disappointing sequel. It also can't stand on it's own without the previous movie which I think is bad no no for Bond movies.

I think the big action finale is insanely stupid, and the actual end seems tacked on (and I still don't know how we get to that point), so I'll go with "no".

Gemma Arterton is amazing. The beginning car chase isn't bad. Other than that, yeah, it's pretty boring. But so is Casino Royale. They're just not as good as people make them out to be. The action finale in Quantum of Solace is SOOOO bad. Ugh.

QoS has it's moments, but it is really not that good of a film. I wouldn't say it is boring or dull. It is just badly written.

It's a disappointing sequel. It also can't stand on it's own without the previous movie which I think is bad no no for Bond movies.

That should be a no no for any movie, regardless if it is a sequel or not.

To date it is the only movie I completely fell asleep in while at the theater. I woke up to hearing the James Bond theme at the end, got up to pay attention to what was going on only to discover the movie was over

...the villains are pathetically one-dimensional...

You want multi-dimensional villains on one hand, but pine for a few shallow girls and gadgets on the other? Really, I don't get the hate for this film. The villains have believable goals and motivations for once, and there's just enough of the "quantum of solace" suggested by the title between action scenes to keep Bond human.

But I'm a big fan on this take on the character, and it is certainly different than any previous version (the closest would either be Dalton's or Connery's in Dr. No). If you don't like this interpretation, I don't see any way the series will be able to catch your attention. Don't worry, they'll do a new version of the character in ten or so years, perhaps less. And with Star Trek fueling a wave of nostalgia for the 1960s, it might be more to your liking. :)

I cannot possibly fathom how someone could find this film boring. It was not as good as Casino Royale but it was a good film and I've watched it three times.

I still think it was better than the first one DC did. However the plot is all over the place and this so called James Bond didn't have enough sex.

Quantum of Suckatude is more like it. They basically took all the joy and entertainment out of the Bond franchise and turned it into a generic action film.

Boring? This was the shortest Bond movie ever. If you think this is boring, I defy you to sit through Thunderball which feels like it has 20 minutes of underwater footage of scuba divers pushing around a nuclear missile.

Having said that, the plot makes no sense unless you see Casino Royale immediately before it (I'm assuming). Given this was the shortest Bond movie ever, I really wish they would have dropped in just a couple of minutes of flashbacks to the previous movie. I don't think that would have been unreasonable or dumbing it down too much.

I'm sorry to say that I agree: this film was boring. I was actually happy when my DVD screwed up and then the blu-ray I rented screwed up because it actually was something interesting (the DVD skipped from Mathis being revealed in the back of the SUV to Bond in the plane).

I like to think of this film as a coda to Casino Royale rather than a sequel. It's still not very good, but it sits better in my mind if I try not to think of it as its own movie.

Did you see CR beforehand? It sounds like that wouldn't be your cup of tea either since QoS follows very directly in its footsteps, I think.

Where's the charisma that made the original films so great???

I'd argue that it's very much there but with an added harder edge and losing some of the baggage from the past. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy many of the Bond films with Connery, Moore or Brosnan. I enjoy the different flavors derived from the different times the films were made in.

But that's also why I'm glad they made IMHO some much needed changes from the dire and anachronistic DAD to CR and QoS.

I've seen it a few times. I think it's pretty good. The "building on fire" finale is kind of boring though.
