Sy-Fy seeks new space opera

At the last moment they will divert the funds for the pilot into a number of creature-feature Sat night movies with B actors and C special effects. So who cares what they say now?

I'd say "yes, if they want to make a cool fun space opera series which isn't tied down by what Star Trek has been since TNG".

Otherwise, give me a different show.

lol this channel is responsible for canning two of the best space based shows in recent memory (Farscape, BSG) and now they want another?

Moar Farscape would be awesome winsauce.

At this point, it should come back as a sequel to itself. They shouldn't just jump back in where they left off, rather we could meet up with the characters 5-6 years after "The Peacekeeper Wars." That way we can have Little Dargo be a teenager or something due to PK genetic engineering.

I think Virtuality would be a nice fit for SyFy. It gives them a fresh series that doesn't look like it needs that big of a budget. Plus they've had success with Ron Moore before. Though I have a feeling that the cast would probably be pared down if it went to SyFy.

Bringing a new Trek series to SyFy would give them a potentially prestigious property but I don't know if the channel would the show the budget and support it would need.

If they hadn't skimped on Flash Gordon they might've had a nice space opera. Perhaps they could try to revive Lost in Space or Buck Rogers if they wanted a brand instead of creating something new.

I don't suppose there's any avenue for civilians like us/me to pitch a space opera to them? :D I've been working on one for 15 years.

The Star Wars live action series. Thankyouverymuch.

I'm pretty sure it'll beat all the ratings the network has ever gotten. :D

Space 1999 is looking for a come back. Mostly moon interiors with alien of the week would be pretty cheap to do.

They didn't cancel BSG.
True but they also didn't allow funding for a fifth season either.

Well, what happened was at the end of season three Moore asked for a two season renewal. Sci-fi said the only do it a season at a time so Moore decided to not take a chance and end the show. Ironically, ratings for BSG went up quite a bit and I've no doubt they'd have gotten a fifth season.

Wasn't the year 1999 ten years ago?

:vulcan: I see this as the likely outcome.
