Optimus Prime Question (toy)

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So we were at TrU the other day and we stumbled upon I think it was the 25th anniversary edition of Prime, featuring his old cab over truck mode and including a DVD and comic, etc. It looks and transforms much like the original toy, obviously but:

is it the same size?

My friend says they scaled him down a bit from the original truck. I think after consideration he might be right.

Anyone know?

It's the same size as the original. The differences are the color scheme and the extras included (and of course, the packaging).

The ONLY thing they DID scale down, were the smoke stacks because of "safety laws". They should be about an inch or so higher than they are in that re-issue. Although you CAN order new stacks online from a few places to make it look more "original"

The new version you got is actually pretty good, colors are bit brighter than the original, but unlike the last reissue, the launcher for Roller actually works! I've got an 80s era Prime that I bought off ebay, not 100% complete, but complete enough. If you find him cheap, buy him. If anything his parts are worth it. Just do a search for Optimus Prime G1 fists, guns, roller, missles and you would easily pay about $50 for all those parts alone.

Plus hey the comic and first 3 episodes of the cartoon are pretty cool too...

As noted its the same toy sans the smoke stack variance.
I got mine on massive mark down from Target for only $17 a few months back.
It amazes me how quick Target will clearance some products out while the other retailers will still let it sit there taking up shelf space. Way to go Target!
I mean lets face it, it is a toy too big and too pricy so the other retailers really are losing out by not following Targets lead.

I'm of two minds on its quick clearance, on one hand, gotta keep the shelves and pegs fresh with new stuff, so yeah some stuff has gotta go, but I know places like Wal-Mart and K-Mart are selling it for $50 bucks at wally world to 70BUCKS (I shit ye not) at K-Mart, that's way way too expensive. And its not even an original. I would spend $70 on an ORIGINAL 80s Prime. But not a new reissue.

But on the other hand, if it IS actually selling even at a higher price, and people still see a demand for it, then we can get more reissues at mass market instead of just Toys R Us. I'd would LOVE to see Classic Soundwave at Mass market, instead of an exclusive somewhere and pay $50 bucks for an originally $25 toy.

Its been awhile but Hasbro released some reissues about 5yrs back, not sure if the whole line was TRU exclusive(don't think it was), but Soundwave was, they did about 30-40 of the most popular figs from the lines first 2yrs. I think at retail he was $25-30usd.

Hasbro's reissues were almost all TRU exclusives. Only two were not: Astrotrain and Sideswipe. Sideswipe should've been available at TRU, but for some reason wasn't (this was towards the end of the line) and it wound up at Kay Bee. After that they released Astrotrain as an online exclusive (via Hasbrotyshop I believe).

While it's still an exclusive (San Diego Comic Con), the upcoming Soundwave is awesome. The plan is to include Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Ravage and Ratbat. http://www.transformersclub.com/sdcc-tf09.cfm
