Is there a Trek Lit timeline?/Which order to read ALL books in?

I am looking for a timeline of the Trek novels.

I know that there are chronological and recommended reading orders for the relaunches and everything but I want to know the recommnded reading order for all of them combined.

I have been used bookstoring and have about 80 books now.

I want to read lots of TNG, and almost all of DS9, Voyager, New Frontier, Destiny, Titan, etc.

Is there a nice way to combine all the lists into a gargantuan recommended reading order for all the books?

You may want to check the online chronology at memory beta, or the Voyages of the Imasgination book that pocket published in 2006. It only goes as far as 2006 (obviously) but memory beta can fill in the rest...

Just so you know there is no need to read ALL of the books in chrono order. While that effort would certainly be awesome, I don't think you'd be screwing with anything if you read the books based on interest. Certainly many of the recent books are tied together so you want to be careful there. There is so much to read that reading Troublesome Minds before reading The Abode of Life really won't make any difference.

Ack I might as well post here!

I plan to. I have taken a note of all the books I tend to read (missing out certain ones as I don't think they're important to me). Of course this is made a little difficult by the fact I have already read Resistance, Q & A and Before Dishonour but I guess when it comes to it I just re-read them.

There is only one little problem I have, I cannot track down a few books, no matter where I look.

But right now I am going on the basis of starting with Left Hand of Destiny, The Klingon books as they appear etc. all the way up to Losing the Peace etc. (I think that is right).

I do have one question though, Memory Beta has sometimes a title of a book then chapters which would be easy enough, but what happens when it is say Chapter 1, 3-5 and 7-8 etc then it moves onto another book. What's happened to chapter 2? (for those that are like WTF the entry I have is on my little pad is nearer the end:-
Greater than the Sum - Chap 3-11
Articles of the Federation - Chap 25-28
Greater than the Sum - Chap 12 + Epilogue
Mere Mortals - Chap 18 Sec 4
Full Circle - Chap 24
Gods of Night - Chap 1, 3-5, 7-9, 11-12, 14-16, 18-19, 21-22
Mere Mortals - Chap 1, 3-5, 7-8, 10-11, 13, 16, 18 (sec 5-7), 19 & 20
Full Circle - Chap 25

Also, a very daft question but in terms of Memory Beta what is a section ala Cpt 18 (sec 5-7)?

Now just to find Greater than the Sum, Articles of the Federation and Diplomatic Probability so I can actually do what I have set out to do... :(

If there are chapters 'missing' from the chronology on MB it means they take place at another point in time, Destiny for example has flashbacks from several centuries before 2381 right up to days before the main events of the trilogy. In those cases if you go to the page for each story it has a timeline section which will show you when each part takes place and what stories come before and after.

The section bits refer to portions of a chapter; generally chapters are split into several blocks of paragraphs, with a gap every now and then for a different 'scene' as it were, each separate 'scene' is a section.

But I'd recommend you read it published order anyway, that’s the order they make most sense in as each story builds off of what came before. You'd be all over the place if you tried reading all these novels set across several time periods in strict chronological order.

Late last year i made a spreadsheet that listed (almost) all of the books in chorological order. I based it off of what i could find on memory beta.

Is there a link to memory beta's chronology?

I love the site but it can be hard for me to navigate it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it, but damn if it isn't confusing. Who cares about flashbacks?

I would love a copy!

Would be happy to provide it. Not sure how to go about that on here though.
On the TNG era side of things I started in 2264 and have gone each year since listing all the books in chorological order. I included all of the DS9 books but only some of Voyager (want to but that in though) and none of NF. I do have a reading order sheet that starts with Ship of the Line and goes up to Density that does have NF and the other series (crossovers, IKS, etc) in it as well. Also did the same thing for all the TOS novels. Don’t have a timeline made for the lost era and stargazer novels but there is not much of those so not to hard to keep track of.

Something that might help is links like these:
http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(NCC-1701-D)
http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/USS_Enterprise_%28NCC-1701-E%29

It is a summary of the history of the NCC-1701-D and E, and near the bottom are the Mission Logs which lists all the novels, comics, and short stories it is in year by year. It is a little better than the main Memory Beta timeline if you are not worried about a flashback in chapter 17 of book whatever.
There are also these links that are good for TOS

Do you use or have Google Docs? If so then you can copy and paste it to there and provide those who wish it the link, even posting it here. I would love to see that as I believe it would be a lot better looking that my Notepad notes :rommie:

I will look into that, i will also have to tidy it up a bit, one of those things where i made it with out thinking of others being able to understand it.

Publication order is absolutely the answer here.

The only exception I can think of is that Forged In Fire was, apparently, pitched before The Sundered was written, because the first couple of pages of The Sundered explicitly refer to events from Forged In Fire. Which I thought was totally badass when I caught it.

And possibly Death In Winter before Titan: Taking Wing.

you can go a little nutty doing this. Best to start with the best books.

I doubt reading something "out of order" would completely ruin it for you, if it is well-written.
