too much mj

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't the last good album Michael Jackson put out like 18 years ago.
That didn't matter to John Lennon, Nirvana & Sublime too name a few. They still get airplay like they're still alive today.

I was around and the Lennon coverage was NOT as intense.
Even with all the new channels eliminated, it was much less than this.

is tv makeing too much of the m. jackson like he was a singer not a war hero or the wright brothers who made the 1st airplane. who with me lol he did the moon walk on walk on the moon like nell armstorg! take care love dr. let the debete begain !;)
I'm guessing you weren't around or don't remember the press coverage when John Lennon was murdered?

Same thing.

Yeah but Jackson wasn't murdered. He died unexpectedly... maybe you need to be a singer to be recognized like this. Funny thing is Farrah Fawcett died about the same time-- but was there even any coverage about it?

I'm sure Fawcett would have received more coverage if MJ had not died so soon after. Same thing with Steve McNair.

I'm with ya. Been avoiding the news since he died (apparently all newsworthy activity in the world has ceased! since there is nothing but Michael Jackson on TV :rommie:).

Nothing against the guy, just don't see what the big freakin' deal is. He danced pretty well and was a lunatic who tried to change his race. Hope his kids aren't too screwed up. RIP.

Okay, how about Princess Di's death? I seem to remember coverage being pretty much around the clock, complete with a globally televised memorial.

There's another celeb I don't see what the big deal was. A rich girl who wasn't quite as off-putting and annoying as her in-laws. At least MJ was a good singer and dancer. What was Di good at except barfing up lunch? :rommie:

Those Iranian protesters were lucky MJ didn't die a week earlier - nobody would have paid any attention to them.

No disrespect to Farrah but she didn't break color barriers internationally and by being the first Black artist to be put on Rolling Stone. Even Stevie Wonder didn't do that. Michael Jackson was one of the few that made people feel color no longer mattered and did it effortlessly. As a minority myself, that was a great gift.

I'd certainly agree that, as far as celebrity news goes, Michael Jackson's death is the most pervasive thing since Princess Di's death or when O.J. Simpson was first accused to murdering his ex-wife.

I must admit, although I loved Michael Jackson, even I have to admit that this is too much coverage-and I say this a a guy who grew up in the same era he became popular in.) This kind of coverage is what drove Paul Jay to create The Real News Network-because he was so tired of what is passing for news these days ('I turn on the news and all I see is Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson, and if I'm lucky on the third channel, the girl who drowned in a lake.') This coverage should be kept to Entertainment Tonight only, not CNN or any other channel-at least BBC World does this coverage a little bit, not a lot.
