PROTOTYPE

Yeah but I can't believe that I'm that much worse than everybody else. Pretty much everybody that has commented since I posted have said "Meh, it's not hard" and I"m just like  . Like I said, I know I suck but geez Louise, this is beyond ridiculous.

EDIT TO ADD: I stand corrected, Bob the Skutter expressed some of the concerns I had. So I guess I'm not totally alone but I still get the feeling he didn't feel as overwhelmed as I did.

I like the concept of the game, but for me to enjoy it, it needed to have been toned WAY down with the chaos and number of enemies and number of moves. I feel I l ike I need a big poster on the wall with a listing of all the moves and controller actions to use the moves.

Honestly, there are sections where it frustrated me so much I just gave up, and went back later. I have actually stopped playing it and not been back in a couple of weeks because it pissed me off. I play games for fun, to relax and unwind, not be frustrated and annoyed.
It seemed really badly designed to me.

Well I guess misery loves company, I don't feel so alone anymore.

I pretty much agree with what you've said here. It went from fun to EXTREMELY annoying last night and I guess it was stubborness on my part that kept me at as long as I did. I have blood pressure issues and I shudder to think how high it might have climbed yesterday while playing this sadistic mess.

I haven't finished it yet, but there have only been a few times that I felt frustrated yet so far.
Usually, trying another approach works. Try climbing in a helicopter and blast things from the sky, that usually does the trick when you're stuck! :D

The mission where you have to defend the bloodtox pumper until Elizabeth comes out of hiding was hard. Either I died prematurely, or the machine did. But then I climbed into a tank and it went great!
However, defeating Elizabeth herself was just boooooooring as hell. Not particularly difficult once you figure out not to come too close. But come on, it took me over half an hour!!

SPOILER: I have stopped playingit for awhile and am concentrating on Red Faction Guerilla. Prototype is fun, but there are too many controls to remember in order to do certain moves. I pretty much put armor on and use the large arm knife to slash through things.

The mission I am on now requires me to destroy 8 filters. These are guarded by supersoldiers and those vapor spraying things that reduces my health. So far I have been able to destroy one filter and that is about it. It is a pain in the butt trying to launch a one man assault on that place.

I mainly go around the city killing the infected and trying out new moves if I can remember how to do them.

The weapons do seem weak, though. The arm blade thing can destroy a tank with a couple of hits, but it takes forever to kill one of the super soldiers with one of them. I find this totally stupid.

i finally beat the game this past weekend... it was a fun and frustrating trip. the difficulty really spiked in some parts, mostly boss fights.

as for the controls, there were a lot... i didnt use a lot of them. i bought some like a crazy kick (lock on, hold away then kick) but never seemed to find a place to use it... maybe it works on the bosses or the bigger infected guys. i know it works on the weaker guys, but i'm not going to wasted my time with complicated moves when simple ones get the job done just as fast.

the devestators also bothered me... so i am at low health, i get a free devestator, but it takes about 2 seconds to get it to fire... so i stand in place for 2 seconds getting hit trying to pull off some attack that generally gets me killed because i'm taking damage.

but when the game was just running around blowing stuff up, it was awesome.

That's the first of my 2 main complaints about the complexity of this game. A lot of interesting powers but there were just too many choices and too many button combos to try to remember.

Then the other thing is what Bob the Skutter referred to. The game is simply too populated with enemies at one time. It seems like they were always throwing a combination of soldiers, strike teams, and hunter mutants at you at one time, and it was just pure chaos.

Likewise when fighting the bosses, they ramp up the difficulty as would be expected with a boss, but that wasn't good enough for the game developers, they also had to throw a mixture of some of the aforementioned enemies.

You know there's a lot things to like about this game, it's too bad they ruined it for me. And as best I could tell, they don't give you an option to change the diffculty but perhaps I've missed that option.

Really? Which bosses are you spending a HOUR on? I didn't even spend an hour on the final boss and he was by far and away the most difficult of the bosses because of the shitty 90 second timer. Without the timer, you're essentially invincible. Low on health? Consume a citizen, or an enemy. Surrounded by too many enemies? Run around a corner and shapeshift.

Most 'story' missions I beat on the first try, it's only getting gold on some of the running challenge missions that is tough.

Honestly, this game is not that hard. Have you maxxed out your abilities?

Plus once you get the ax-arm that is the only one you need, that and critical pain can destroy anything.

After two failed attempts, I got myself a nice helicopter and blasted the things from the sky. Very easy that way. =)

Well let me ask a question, is there a way to change the difficulty setting and how do you do it? (I've got the PS3 version). I can't for the life of me seem to find anything that talks about a difficulty setting, yet I've seen some discussion of "easy" difficulty. Perhaps if I could dial it down to easy that would help me out.

That was the mission that stumped me as well.

I came in over the fence from the street to the west and once I set off an alarm I stood near one of the filters and used and area attack to take out a) the filter, and b) any nearby enemies. Then I made a beeline to the next filter, destroyed it, and triggered a handy checkpoint :D

After those first two, it's a piss easy.

Well I guess I can't change it "midstream" ala Infamous, I missed the change to set it to easy from the get go. Not gonna start this mess over. Oh well.

Thanks for the hints. When I start playing it again I will try to nab a helicopter. Heck most of the time when I try to jump up and hijack one I end up destroying it with a hit or kick because I forget to press the dang "B" button when I am near it.

I used Rocket Launcher to take them out from outside the cloud. There's no time limit so if you need to escape the super-soldiers and come back, you can.

As stated by a few others there are various methods to try.
I personally just hijacked a tank right outside the facility and went to town on them. Just keep moving, when you stop to fire you make yourself a very easy target.

As for the frustration/hardness of the game I'd have to say (for me) the game wasn't hard per say but it did get frustrating in a few parts until you figured out which attack (or lack there of ) strategy to use.

Once you figure out which weapons and strategy you want to use the game really is fun to play.

I'm about halfway through the game right now, I think. Moving around the city has been a lot of fun. I love not being confined to hanging on ledges and what not when scaling tall buildings. Kicking helicopters down is also a blast. There are probably too many powers, though. I find I'm sticking to just a few that work well and not really trying out the others.

Side missions have been pretty fun, too. I like that they stay open once they're available so you can revisit them. There's not a ton of variety, but they don't feel that repetitive yet.

Haven't been too excited about the story, so far. Infamous did a better job with the presentation, even if that story wasn't really anymore deep. They did have some bits that could be picked up out of order through the dead drops, but most of the story in Prototype has been presented in a rather jumbled manner here. Not that I'm really playing for the story. :P

ARRRGHHHH!!!! I went to change it from "normal" to "easy" and I was sent back to the beginning! I lost all my saves! I am so stupid!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. RENT IT.

It's fun to go around on killing sprees and to do the missions but this is the kind of game you would just want to play once just to finish the story.

Some of the trophies are hard to get because the number you have to hit is HUGE so you would have to use a lot of roaming time to kill over 53, 000 people and some of the events are nearly impossible to get gold medals because the controls are a bit faulty.

I played it on normal difficulty and some missions are ridiculously hard so I can imagine how the game is on the actual hard difficulty.

It's not a bad game at all but it gets boring doing the same things over and over again, which is basically either running around and killing people, consuming people or hopping into tanks.

Also, the hunters are a rip off of the lickers from Resident Evil and, being a Resident Evil fangirl, that made me grrrrrr.
