Going Postal Cast Announced

Looks like Richard Coyle (Jeff from Coupling) has been cast as Moist Von Lipwig.
From Digital Spy

Sky1 has announced the cast list for its adaptation of Terry Pratchett novel Going Postal.
Richard Coyle and Claire Foy have landed the lead roles of arch-swindler Moist Von Lipwig and Adore Belle Dearheart respectively. They will be joined in the production by David Suchet as Reacher Gilt and Charles Dance as Lord Vetinari.
Additionally, Steve Pemberton will portray Drumknott, Andrew Sachs will be Groat, and Miss Crisplock will be played by Tamsin Greig.
"Following the Sky1 HD successes of Sir Terry Pratchett's Hogfather and The Colour of Magic, we're thrilled to now be bringing Going Postal to life," said head of Sky1 drama Elaine Pyke.
"Adapted by Richard Kurti and Bev Doyle, Going Postal is a hugely enjoyable epic adventure story guaranteed to delight audiences across the country next Easter."
Production has now started on the two-part series, which is due to broadcast in spring 2010.
Sounds like a good casting choice to me.

Dance- Yay
Suchet- Yay
Coyle - Aw, crap. Well, two out of three isn't bad, I suppose.

I'm sure the rest of the cast is OK, and at least we don't have a hugely-miscast David Jason this time

Now this is interesting. I'm always up for Richard Coyle action, and Claire Foy looks very nice indeed. People like Sachs and Pemberton are good bonuses too. They've got a lot of work on their hands to impress me, as Going Postal is probably my favourite Discworld book. Starting without David Jason playing... well, anyone suits me fine.

why Charles Dance? what happened to the brilliant Jeremy Irons?!

Yep, I thought that was perfect casting and it seemed to have been set up as the 'ongoing casting', as it were.
Availability, I guess, but still a pity: Charles Dance would be slightly better casting as the (numerous) ambitious guildsmaster who thinks he has what it takes to overthrow Vetinari...

PS: Unless plans have changed - which is always possible - this'll adapt both Going Postal and Making Money.

^ Really? Oh. That makes me less excited. Although that said if you remove the Vetinari-wannabe and implement the golems from Making Money, maybe that COULD work. I'd rather just the one though.

That's a shame about Irons, he was almost perfect as Vetinari (Alan Rickman would have been perfect) but Charles Dance isn't a bad substitute.

David Suchet is a bit of a surprise, for some reason I pictured Reacher Guilt as a much "bigger" man. Sort of Greengrass from Heartbeat meets Tommy Cooper....don't ask.

I'm not too familiar with Claire Foy, though a quick google images shows that she seems to have the right look at least.

Sachs as Mr Groat is good news, that role really needs someone with good solid comic ability.

It feels a bit odd that Sacharissa is getting introduced in this one rather than in 'The Truth'. It's for the same reason that I hope that they keep Vimes out of this one (I think he's peripherally there in the book) as I'd rather they save him for when/if they do a 'Watch' book.

Nice that they've given Van Den Broeke something different to do this time. Death felt a little wasted in Colour of Magic.

All in all I think this has the potential to be better than the last two as the story is more relatable than Hogfather's and the characters are far more interesting than CoM.
I don't know what everyone else thought, but I MUCH perfered Hogfather, but then I much perfer the book too and the Death/Susan books in general over the Rincewind ones.

I like Jeremy Irons, but I thought he was awful as Vetinari.

Anyway, the cast list for this one looks good. Tamsin Greig is a good choice for Miss Crisplock - but I always thought that Ronni Ancona would have been perfect in that role.

It is a shame about Sachirissa - she was only in a small part of the book IIRC so seems they could have left her out of this one. I'm hoping The Truth gets an adaptation later though - seems like one that would work pretty well.

I agree, I never understood the reasoning behind that lisp.

I only knew Andrew Sachs from that list so I did some Google image searches and they all look alright to me. My only issue is that Claire Foy looks about 10 years younger than I imagined "Spike" but she certainly looks the part in every other way. At least they don't have David Jason in a wholly inappropriate role this time.

I wonder, is there any hint of which one they'll do next or are they just taking these one at a time?

If I had to guess I'd say one of the 'Witch' books. I'd always imagined Stephanie Cole (Diana from 'Waiting for God') as Granny Weatherwax, though I'm not sure if she's a little too old these days. On the other hand, Dawn French would make a great Nanny Ogg, so it'd follow that Jennifer Saunders and Emma Chambers be Weatherwax & Magrat respectively. ;)

My preference however would be for one of the Guards books, though for the life of me I can't imagine who'd play Vimes or Carrot. Nobby's already been done well and I could probably think of a half dozen actors for Fred Colon. Angua might be a bit of a challenge too.
