Happy 4th and Happy Omega Glory

Gorn Captain

Commander
Red Shirt
As suggested elsewhere, perhaps the Omega Glory is a good 4th of July TOS episode. I just completed my first viewing of this episode in probably 20 years.

I dont remember liking this episode, or it would not have been so long. And for about 45 minutes, I thought I had a faulty memory, because it seemed quite good, except for Kirk repeatedly getting his ass kicked by a senior citizen.

Then the American flag made its appearance. I was hoping that Koms and Yangs was an in joke like Mr. Atoz, but no. An over the top, Shatnerific performance of the preamble of the Constitution. Wow. What a terrible end to an otherwise okay episode.

Anyway, Happy 4th of July to all you Yangs out there.

Happy 4th!

Yeah, my wife and I just watched it, and we were rolling our eyes from the moment the flag appeared. Holy heavy handedness, Batman!

Two other memorable things about this ep was doctoring Roy Jensen's voice so Cloud William would sound more manly. And the famous "commando" shot of his girlfriend when she collapsed after the Spock pinch.

aha! This would have helped the episode!

A scene filmed, but cut from the final episode (all versions, including original broadcast and DVD version), has Kirk, Spock and McCoy speculate that Omega IV was settled by explorers of Earth's early space race.

I've always enjoyed Omega Glory.

Not the best of TOS, but far from the worst. Never understood the hate............

Which would have made absolutely no sense with the rest of the episode...

Wu (or Woo) had seen 42 years of the red bird which occurred every eleven years. Which made Wu over four-hundred and sixty years old. His father was well over a thousand (this is information provided by Captain Tracey). Plus the time it took for the biological elements to change their life spans. You're probably looking at events that occurred thousands of years in Earth's past.

But another planet having the exact same flag and documents makes sense? :wtf:

You're right about the years, that wouldn't make sense either. I guess you're going to have something nonsensical either way.

Perhaps it's all part of a master plan by a superior race. Allowing human groups to each evolve to a certain point then pushing them in a direction. Could be why we see so many human cultures developing along similar paths. Who knows... :guffaw:

I see your point but in the end I do think it would of helped this episode regardless because what kind of a coincidence is it that this culture has the exact same flag as the USA...it's not similar..no it's exact..so stating that this must of been an outpost or whatever in earth's early exploring days...yeah would of helped.

I like how they broadcast this for 4th of July...I didn't even make the connection...duh!

Can I ask where these filmed scenes go? Why can't they edit them back into the episodes (when appropriate)?

But then when someone did the math they would be complaining as well. It would've meant man's first extra-solar flights took off somewhere around the birth of Christ (some 1800 years before the flag was invented).

It probably works out better that we were somehow off-shoots of Omega IV.

^^^ I'm sure they could of thought of something to "make it fit"...something anyway to explain the exact same flag and constitution as earth -- but what's done is done right...LOL?

But why can't they edit these deleted scenes back into the show (when appropriate) ...where are these deleted scenes and there must be quite a bit from the whole series...??? I want to see deleted scenes!!!!!

Completely agree.

In season 1 Shatner's acting was less over the top. By season two he was beginning to flex his dramatic flair for over doing it. By the end of season two, or The Omega Glory, he was obviously working himself into a froth. By the time season three kicked-in, just a few months later, Shat was in overdrive and quite out of control.

.....and I love it!
