Non-Human Captains...

NIUPonyBoy

Captain
Captain
How many non-human captains of Starfleet ships have we seen? I cannot really remember any off the top of my head, but I am sure I have seen some.

I am talking across and the TV series and movies.

I am not complaing about it, go Humans! But can some enlighten me about who and what ship and race? :techman:

Vulcan Captain Solok in Deep Space 9...

I can't remember anyone else, maybe someone else will.

Non-Human ranking officers:

Solok of the T'Kumbra, a Vulcan

Captain of the Intrepid, a Vulcan (mentioned)

Admiral T'Lara, a Vulcan

Admiral Sitak, a Vulcan

Two other Vulcan admirals in TNG, their names I forget.

Rixx, a Bolian

A Bolian admiral in the background of DS9.

Laporin, a Benzenite (mentioned)

An Andorian admiral (Star Trek IV background character)

A Caitian admiral (ditto).

Plenty in novels, of course, but I think that's it for screen, sadly. There should have been more.

Sisko MIGHT count too, as half-Prophet.

I would've loved to see a series focusing on a crew that had a non-human captain. That could've made for some interesting dynamics, depending on how brave the writers and networks were.

Sisko MIGHT count too, as half-Prophet.

I always interpreted it that the Prophets arranged his conception by possessing Sarah (a human woman) to ensure that she got pregnant, but that he was genetically fully human.

Oh yes, he is genetically a full human, but mentally he is part-Wormhole alien. His existence is not linear. Wormhole aliens can't pass on genetic material, but I guess they pass on some non-corporeal essence...don't ask me how, but that's what I assume. :)

How about when Dax was given command of the Defiant, while Sisko was doing his strategic stuff at the starbase. Not captain rank, but served as captain.

Same thing for Data, aboard the Sutherland.

Worf was captain very briefly aboard the Enterprise-D, twice - it is debatable whether it was official either time or not, though.

Nog was shown as captain of the Defiant in the future, and T'Pol was captain of the NX-01 in a future that did not come to pass.

The Doctor, acting as ECH, was captain of Voyager on a few occasions.

Kira, Worf and Jadzia often were acting captains on the Defiant.
In Star Trek: Bridge Commander there was an annoying Andorian captain.

Like the "New Frontiers" novel series?
That featured a crew with a non-human captain (Mackenzie Calhoun).
--although he was a humanoid and not *that* alien.

the bulk of the senior staff in NF is non human.

Xenexian captain
human no.1
Hermat Chief Engineer
Vulcan science officer and CMO
demigod helmsman
human ops officer

By fluoridating the water.:shifty:

Edit: I never read NF--I always assumed "Mackenzie Calhoun" was a human. What's the explanation on the name?

It just happens to sound very much like 'Mackenzie Calhoun'. Seriously.

his name's actually M'k'n'zy of Calhoun. he got sick of people not getting the gutterals right and changed it to Mackenzie Calhoun at the Academy. he's got purple eyes, that's as alien as he looks.
