Hate post twice in a row but it has been two weeks and I thought this article might be interesting, as it seems that Skarsgard not only auditioned for the part, but even got to try on the costume. Poor guy - I hope Hemsworth is really, really good in the role.

Skarsgard does look more Thor-like. But Hemsworth should be fine.

According to Moviehole, Natalie Portman has also been courted for the role, although she might be wary of signing up for a big FX blockbuster after the Star Wars prequels.

So Biel/Portman would be Enchantress? I was expecting Sif. Given the choice, I'd vote Biel. I don't think she's a void. Rather, I don't have much respect for Portman's acting abilities.

Thor's had two main love interests': Sif and the Nurse (forgive me, I'm not up on my Thor). Perhaps this will be that story of how he tried to make her a Goddess so she could live in Asgard but Odin deliberately messed it up so he could have Thor's total attentions? Nice tragic touch at the end.

I'm not really up on my Thor either, but isn't the character referenced in the piece Enchantress? I didn't know about this Nurse, but I did know about Sif and Enchantress's fixation on the Odinson.

The scene that has to be in this movie -- or a variation thereof -- is this:

Gun-toting bad guys are trying to take over a hospital or other medical facility. Thor appears (mainly because Don Blake happens to be working there) and dispatches most of the thugs easily. One guy gets the drop on Thor with a big machine gun, snarling something to the effect of "You're tough, big guy, but let's see if you're bulletproof!"

Thor merely stands there, not moving a muscle or uttering a sound. The bystanders are starting to look a little worried; is Thor bulletproof or isn't he? The bad guy is savoring the moment when he notices that lightning is striking all around him and the thunder is starting to get deafening. And Thor still doesn't move -- merely glares at him.

"Y'know what? My bad!" The gun drops.

The Nurse was Jane Foster, I think.

That was her. She was Thor's love interest in the early years of the strip, but was later superceded by Sif . . . .

The Blake stuff doesn't show up til the very end of the film, as I understand, so it's very unlikely to be Jane.

I'm not surprised, in a lot of respects, that they'd possibly go for Enchantress over Sif; the former is an edgy bad girl.

Sif is his wife I believe. The Enchantress is a fallen Asgardian femme fatale of the Poison Ivy variety. She usually commits dastardly deeds just to get his attention. He's usually banging her when Sif is out of the picture. Thor's penis is too powerful to be contained by a single woman.

Looks the part, that is all anyone can really ask. If he works out he will be just fine. I would say he is more He-Man than Thor, but I like that look for Thor.

I'd rather Marvel not cast Biel. She is a modest actress with exceptional beauty but I don't see her as either Sif or Enchantress. I could go with Portman as Sif I suppose. I'd rather have a less busty actress but one that can actually, you know, act.
