The Twilight Zone Marathon

Does anyone tune in for an episode or two everytime sci-fi has their marathon? My favorite episode, "The Hitch-Hiker" is currently on. I never watch a ton in a row but it's fun to pop in every once in a while even if you've seen 'em a thousand times before.

I'm surprised they ran a lot of the episodes of the 80s series. I'm even more surprised at how good those episodes actually were. I had no idea people like Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, and George R. R. Martin wrote episodes and that people like Wes Craven directed.

I didn't catch those. They were on yesterday, right?

They were on for the last two days. Some silly episodes, to be sure, but some really good ones, too.

Of course, the original is classic. I never get tired of watching it. I'm just waiting for them to release the HD episodes on blu-ray. The series was already remastered in HD, but released on DVD. The work is already done, all they have to do is release it on blu-ray. I have the first two seasons on DVD, but I'm holding out for blu-ray. Don't know how much longer I can wait, though.

I was also glad that my DVR recorded many of the 80's episodes. I lack it on DVD, and think it was a fine addition to the original.

/Oh humans, we were trying to breed you for war, but as one of your own said; Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.

Happy Twilight Zone 4th!

Twilight Zone marathons on New Years and July 4th are one of the few things Sci-Fi has done consistently well since it's launch in the early 90's. Some of my favorite eps are Time Enough at Last, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, It's a Good Life and Eye of the Beholder.

I like the one with Agnes Moorehead one, the Invaders.... no talking.. was cool.

Isn't Blu-Ray a bit of overkill for something as old as the original TZ?

Anyone who is interested in the 80s version of TZ should be able to see them on a regular basis on the Chiller horror channel.

IMO some of these episodes can stand up to the original and I just dug the fact that some episodes were only a few minutes long. Set up plot, then punchline, got to the point. One of the best examples was the "Small Talent for War" episode as well as "I of Newton" which featured Ron Glass as a truly bad-ass devil.

I'm convinced Agnes Moorehead could do anything. I think she won an award for her radio performance of "Sorry, Wrong Number." She goes from that, only using her voice, to doing Twilight Zone, where she has an incredibly physical part with no dialog at all. What couldn't she do?

There are so many great episodes. "Long Distance Call," "Eye of the Beholder." My ten year old daughter has been watching the marathon, too, which is really cool.

What does its age have to do with it? It was filmed in 35mm. On blu-ray it would be just as crystyal clear as anything filmed yesterday. It's already been remastered in full 1080 HD, just like Star Trek. There's no work left to do except release the blu-ray. Why shouldn't they release it?

Have you ever seen an old movie on blu-ray? If possible, I suggest catching Casablanca on blu-ray and you'll see what you've been missing all these years. First time I rented it it looked so clear and so detailed I missed the movie just staring at every wrinkle and pore on Bogie's face. The DVD doesn't even compare.

I've been taping them all off on DVD. The original ones- not the later ones. I can honestly say I've seen enough of Rod Serling that I've started to find him oddly attractive with his voice, his constant five o'clock shadow and cigarette. :shifty:
Now if they'd only re-run The Night Gallery. That is the one thing I hate about the rise of the infomercials (other than the infomercials themselves)- you used to be able to watch all these awesome reruns after midnight. I remember watching the then-new Fox station and it'd run The Avengers, Twilight Zone, and The Night Gallery.

^^ Night Gallery is on Hulu. :) Video quality isn't great, of course, but it's nice to see them again.

I always put on the Twilight Zone Marathon when it's on. One of the greatest shows ever. My favorite episodes are "Number Twelve Looks Just Like You" and "Third From The Sun."

And the 80s revival was very good. Definitely made with respect for the source material and a desire to live up to the old standards. Twilight Zone: The Movie and the 00s revival did not do so well....
