Dayton after rereading open secrets again. I was wondering are the 2267 sections of the book added to the story as part of the orginal writing procress Second which one of you came up with the Idea of the klingons grabbing Deigo Reyes in books 4 and 5 Finally the additional starfleet ships are they all sent to vanguard because of the war or is one of them the 4th ship that Adimaral noguira was asking starfleet to send to reinforce the peacetime mobile assets that vanguard allready had in the area.

Re: question on vanguard series for david or dayton

You might want to put some of that stuff in spoiler code. The book is still pretty new, so alot of people proabably haven't read it.

Either way, I'm glad we finally got some Saladins at Vanguard.

I thought that was a great homage to some of the classic, non-canon technical works that provided a depth to Starfleet that was lacking on-screen.

Now, if only we could see a Belknap-class strike cruiser or a Ptolemy-class transport-tug...

That was Dayton and Kevin's notion...
and I continue exploring it in Precipice.

Both.

I'm a little ambivalent about how "Open Secrets" ended with Diego assisting the Klingons. Reyes is probably my favorite character next to T'prynn, so I'm hoping he doesn't lose his neck before the series ends. Sure, I think the guy's owed some payback after having to deal with all that Federation bureaucracy and bad coffee, but… Klingons? Guess it makes more sense than working with Tholians.
Since this thread is all about "Vanguard," I've got a few questions of my own: Will we ever see the Romulans again? And is there a chance Vaughn might show up as a part of T'prynn's storyline?

^ You'll need to read Precipice to see how Reyes's story reached the point at which we found him in the epilogue of Open Secrets.

Vanguard has not seen the last of the Romulans.

As for Vaughn, don't count on seeing him; based on our best estimates, he won't even be born until 2274, and Star Trek Vanguard is intended to depict events set during the run of the original series' five-year mission (2265-2270). Even projecting ahead to the movie era (2280s), Vaughn would be barely a teenager. I can't see him playing any meaningful role in T'Prynn's story within the context of Vanguard.

Ah, that would make it difficult to work Vaughn into the story! Well, that's too bad. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing the return of the Romulans. I've always been curious what happened to the female Romulan commander from "Enterprise Incident—"wouldn't she be in Federation custody during "Vanguard?"
If the Gorn start playing a larger role as well, then all my favorites will be featured. :)

Not yet -- the Vanguard saga hasn't yet reached that point in the series' continuity.

As Spock says, "There are always possibilities."

David, as the book series is concurrent thus far with Season 1 of TOS, will there be a mention of the accident that cripples Captain Pike? If I remember Commodore Mendez' dialogue, he said something to the effect that there had been subspace chatter about it for months, when Kirk said he didn't know what had happened to Pike.

Any chance of seeing Pike before the accident occurs?

Again, as I said in our PMs, I really love this series.

:techman:

Actually, we're up to Season 2 as of Open Secrets and forging ahead in Precipice.

There are no plans to include Pike at this time, but that could change.

That's what I thought. So he'd be coming on the scene as a fresh ensign during the Sulu/Excelsior era.

Here's an unanswered question posted by someone else on the psiphi board that I'm confused on as well: Maybe I'm daft and missed this, but what charges would T'Prynn be faced with at the end of Open Secrets? She wasn't complicit in Reyes' release of classified information, IIRC.

^ It was revealed she had illegally tampered with and altered her official Starfleet medical records ...
to conceal her mental illness. She compounds her error by going AWOL at the end of Open Secrets.

Huh? Open Secrets closes concurrent with the events of "Errand of Mercy", a late season 1 episode. Unless I'm being dumb and missed something.
Sorry, my bad. I meant we're into Season 2 as of Precipice.

I've been wondering if the series stays popular will it move past the TOS timeframe? Or try to keep in that period as long as it runs?

^ Could go either way. That's one of the questions to be discussed this weekend at Shore Leave when I meet with Dayton Ward, Kevin Dilmore, and Margaret Clark to plan the next phase of the series.

Wow, I felt like an idiot for asking that, but knowing you guys aren't sure does make me feel better.
