^

look, if it's true, great. and if it is untrue, why can't we let her have her memories (whether or not she created them)? it's not important to me. I don't need to put her on the spot for this. let her be.

^^^Because this story is all over the place now, and, if untrue, it's basically a lie. Maybe unimportant in the larger picture, but I hate mythologizing of important historical figures for personal ego boo.

I'm looking for a screengrab where Uhura's pointing off camera, so I can comp it into that shot of everybody on the balcony pointing at where the shot came from....

What?

If the facts don't fit the story, change the facts.

Ever heard of Israel Bissell?

What?

Yeah that's a pretty bad thing to say, but if you have any doubt who did it, I bet it was that funky turkey Truck Turner.

No.

^ Exactly. He rode for four days and six hours covering 345 miles to warn the colonists of the British attack in 1775. You might have heard of Paul Revere... The guy who rode 19 miles, and had the name that rhymed better. Hence, Longfellow chose him for his epic poem, and well, the rest is history.

You can read the wiki entry on him:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isreal_Bissel

In 100 years it's likely Nichelle Nichols' getting cast on Star Trek will have been MLK's inspiration for the civil rights movement.

Of course, there's mythology on top of mythology involved with Bissel:

^ No question it's debatable. Still, either way you go with Bissell, he's another example of printing the legend, rather than the facts.

My understanding is that Martin Luther King, Jr. rode for four days and six hours covering 345 miles to beg Nichelle Nichols not to leave Star Trek.

Here's the only photo I could find. Feel free to incorporate that into the PSA.

^ Yes, those are not hard to come by. She did Playboy, didn't she?
They look like Playboy of the time @ any rate.
So you would think there would be a photo of her with MLK available. I know I would have wanted a picture with him. Of course, we weren't all carrying camera-phones back then, but, but MLK!!!

EDIT: And now there is!

Gene was apparently there too, getting something signed. What a fanboy.

Are you saying Nichelle looks like a horse's ass? How dare you.

Sorry I beg to differ. She met him at a fundraiser and he told her she was playing one of the only non-sterotype roles of a black woman on television, and that she should stick it out.

What flavor Kool Aid are you drinking?

Gee it was fun to read this thread again.

That said, it's way too old to have dug up. I think MLK is about as likely to have read your reply as Darwin.
