SF/F Books: Chapter Two - What Are You Reading?

I am almost finished with Zoe's Tale which finally came out in paperback. Almost reads like Allen Steele's Coyote series. Lots of similarities.

I'm a big Brin fan, and I think the Foundation book was his only foray into "un-originality"...

Thank god, too.

The last two sci-fi books I read were Superman/Batman Public Enemies by Kevin J. Anderson which I thought was a great book and much better than Last Son of Krypton. I also read the novelization to Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. Right now I'm reading X-Men: The Rise and Fall of the Shi'Ar Empire TPB and the novelization for G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra by Max Collins.

Don't know if it's considered sci-fi but I'm working on the V for Vendetta graphic novel at present. Liked the movie at a lot.

DUUUUUUUNE

I'm a Dune fan too. Currently reading Chapterhouse: Dune after recently completing Heretics of Dune. The series is amazing.
And I'm part of the faction that says the only book is Dune, and don't bother with the rest of the series. God bless those of you who like 'em, though.

As for me, I'm currently 100 pages into King's The Stand. At this rate, I'm going to piss away my entire summer on this book, and we'll see you in October.

No problem. Everyone has different tastes. The story of Leto II, the Tyrant, his Golden Path, & The Honored Matres makes it worth reading for me, and these books provide insight into the Bene Gesserit. However, among the *new* Dune books by Brian Herbert & KJA - I've only read Paul of Dune so far. The son does not exceed his father's writing skills as based on what I've read of his Dune books - they lack the depth & complexity in the storylines of earlier Dune novels.

I just picked up Gulimero Del Toro's The Strain which I'm very much looking forward to delving into. Will be reading it once I finished G.I. Joe.

Yeah I know what you mean...I currently have a back log of about four or five books. Just haven't really been in the reading mood lately for some reason.

Got a ton more than that, about 60 in total, half of them are Star Trek and I just can't be bothered with them any more.
I'm currently reading Death's Daughter, and The Men Who Stare At Goats. I plan on trying to get on with a load of books as soon as I finish up some games.

60 is indeed a lot sir! Wow...five is usually too much of a back log for me. Like I said though I've been in a reading and DVD watching funk over the last few weeks.

Yeah, I've just been buying/pre-ordering books for ages, and I've gone through about 30 books so far this year, but I just end up with as many books as I started with by the time all the pre-orders catch up with me.

I have about 90 books on my to read pile and about 80% are ST books across TNG, DS9 and VOY, and some NF and crossovers.

I have a dozen or so books already bought that I'm working through. Varying stuff from sci-fi (both "soft" and "hard") to fantasy, horror, mystery, non-fiction, etc. Most of it is sci-fi/fantasy stuff though.

My last book was the paperback version of Small Favor by Jim Butcher. It was as always, a good book. I don't think I've been disappointed yet by a Dresden book and that's the 10th one.

Now I'm reading Zoe's Tale by John Scalzi. I haven't actually read the first word of the book yet so I guess I'm "preparing" to read it.

Just read Turn Coat, it's really starting to build momentum now. Love both of Jim Butcher's series. Dresden Files has to be my favourite series though.

The Dresden Files is my favorite of Butcher's series, too, but Princeps' Fury was fantastic. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he ends the story in First Lord's Fury.

Me too. I love Codex Alera too, in fact it's probably the only "swords and sorcery" type fantasy that appeals to me.

Just finished it last night. Not bad. Quite amusing at times.

A while ago I found a whole bunch of the Bantam Doc Savage paperbacks at a local used bookstore; today I made my first three purchases: The Man of Bronze, The Phantom City, and The Monsters. It seems to be the only way I can really get to read any of the stories, they're hard for me to track down. I did find a website that has some "double-novel" reprints with awesome original cover art, but I hope they're continuing to print them because it still isn't half of the whole series. Anyway, I'm only two chapters in and still getting a feel for Dent's! writing! style! so I can't give real thoughts yet.

This is going to be fun. :)
