So what are you reading now? Part 2

I just finished SCE: Ambush while on my break at work today, and I really liked it. I thought it was kinda fun to see engineers in a combat situation, which isn't something we see very often. Other than when their in engineering, telling the Captain how bad of shape the ship is in that is. It was also nice to get to see mroe of the actual crew of the da Vinci, which as far as I remember we haven't seen much of yet. It was well written, and the characters were very well handled. With each story I'm liking these characters more and more. For a final rating I'd have to go with 8/10.
I also started Some Assembly Recquired, which I am already liking even more.

Thanks for the kind words. That was my first effort without Greg's input (we talked a bit about it and he read it--that's about it).

It took me one day to read the New Frontier Omnibus, I now officially hate Peter David, all his books should come with a big warning sign saying: Do Not Read If You Have A Job In The Morning! :guffaw:

After having read Imzadi I couldn't understand all the hype, but after this I have definitely changed my mind.

Almost every Star Trek books has some funny moments, but his writing style is so crazy-ass that it makes me laugh out loud in the middle of the night in an apartment with very thin walls... :scream:

I think I even found a new signature for myself.

Next Up: Mutiny on the Enterprise (Recently read The Klingon Gambit)

See, I don't read funny books at night anymore because of the thin apartment walls! If I don't know it's going to have something funny, I just bury my head in my pillow and stop reading once I'm done laughing.

I just finished Life, The Universe, and Everything, which I really enjoyed. And I finally remembered to read the last story in the MU Shards and Shadows collection. I set it aside a few months ago and forgot to go back to it until today.

Reading Troublesome Minds now, enjoying it quite a bit, 80 pages to go hope to done tonight :-)

Found a book store that has a bunch of the 80's TOS novels for about a 1.25 a piece so debating what to read next, thinking Enterprise The First Adventure, and then Strangers From the Sky

Thanks for addressing the illogical closure of the previous thread, so when we reach the 1000 mark in here, will we have a part three and then a part four and so on and so?

If threads are to be closed at 1000 posts, why does Cast the Characters of Trek Literature have 1529 posts and is still open? And given that the Cast thread it still open at so many more past 1000 posts, why not just absorb this thread back into the original thread?

And just to keep on topic, last night I finished Full Circle and have started On Basilisk Station (eBook) by David Weber.

First of all, Exactly why is the closing of that thread such a HUGE deal? Has conversation ceased because of it? Was someone treated unjustly because of it?

Then I'll point out, Dimesdan, that you answered your own question about it here: (emphasis mine)

Also, I was under the impression after asking that the 1000 posts is un-necessary and is up to the Mods discretion.

As for other threads that have gone over the 1000 post mark: Cast Characters, this thread has been around since 2006 and while yes it has been allowed to go over that it isn't in much danger of becoming ridiculously huge since it took 3 years to get where it is. The old "what are you reading" thread hit 1000 posts in less than 6 months and didn't appear to be slowing down at all. So assuming people keep it going it could very well have reached 6000 posts in the same amount of time the Cast the characters thread reached 1500.

The other threads mentioned are just barely over 1000.

So let's not further dirty up this thread with irrelevant discourse lest it be closed without a replacement.

I'm rereading The 34th Rule right now. After being unimpressed by the Crucible trilogy, I forgot just why I thought DRG3 is such a great Trek author. This book is reminding me in a big way. The characters' inner thoughts are explored in a way that could never be done on the series, but the plot also has a momentum and drive to it that makes me want to keep turning pages. There's also a lot of intriguing moral issues and parallels to Earth history to think about.

So what you say goes, fair enough, but it still feels illogical and pointless given as soon as the thread was closed, this was opened.

Ah, yes, the one size fits all answer when you don't feel like explaining a question.

You skipped this part where I did explain the question:

[also, you didn't edit quick enough] as to your new edit: Sure if you want to construe something this small as some sort of heavy-handed jack-booted moderation style, that is your right, even though it's really nothing so malignant.

There are actually technical reasons behind a difference between one thread being 2000 posts and 4 threads being 500 each. Just because vB can handle it better than the old one doesn't mean it can handle them up to infinity. It'd be just as "pointless" IYO if we waited until 2000 posts to close it and start a new one would it not?

As for the topic at hand.

I've finished the GI Joe book and it was surprisingly amazing. I'm now reading Stargate SG-1: Roswell by Sonny Whitelaw and Jennifer Fallon - so far so good as far as the story goes, but the copy-editor for this needs to be fired as it has a LOT of typographical and grammatical errors.

Why not just give the honest answer: Rosalind likes to start new threads. :p

;)

yep, you caught me, that's exactly it. :)

So what you say goes, fair enough, but it still feels illogical and pointless given as soon as the thread was closed, this was opened.

this is done in the lounges all the time, where the check-in threads are closed and a part xxx opened at the same time all the time.

In addition, long threads tends to turn away new participants, and this thread looks like one that's just going to keep going.

Another difference between this thread and the cast character thread is people might want to refer to the earlier posts in that one to check out other suggestions, whereas there isn't much need for that in this one.
