Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje interested in returning to Lost

In an interview with TVGuidemagazine.com, Lost's famous Season 3 casualty Mr. Eko, actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, admitted that'd he would, in fact, love to return to the show to play the character once again. Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Mr. Eko was an immensely popular character that had to be killed off way before his time after the actor asked to be released from the show prematurely. With the last season of Lost fast approaching, we're all expecting to see some past favorites return. "To be able to give that rich character some completion would be nice," said Akinnuoye-Agbaje. And while the actor keeps in touch with fellow ex-Losties Dominic Monaghan and Harold Perrineau, it is still unknown whether or not he'll be back for the hit ABC series' endgame.

I thought his character was given a decent amount of closure with his decision to not repent of his sins to the Monster/Judge and his apparent death sentence for his defiance. I suspect that any further appearances would simply be as a ghost cameo, ala Libby and Ana Lucia, which doesn't seem to be what the actor is looking for.

I always get the first part of his surname wrong. Getting the "u" and the "o" the wrong way round.

Anyway, what happened to 'Wale's plan to make a film about his life?

If any more time jumping occurs they could have him show up on the island before he died. They could also use him in flashbacks or dreams or have Hurley see him. And who knows, maybe the bomb reset everything and they end up right back on the beach during the crash...then we'll get to see him again.

Though I don't really care much if we do. I liked his character at the time but I got over it once he was dead. I was just on Oahu two weeks ago and I saw the filming site for the little church that Eko was building. Still standing there just fine.

And this fits in perfectly with his "island fever" reason for leaving. He couldn't stand to be there any longer but now that he's been away he wants back...I feel the same way and I've only been gone two weeks!

My thoughts are a little disjointed in this post, oh well.

I know how you feel, Spot's Meow. I was sad that they ended Eko's story prematurely (at the actor's request allegedly) but once it was over, I didn't really give it much of a second thought, as storylines regarding the Others, Desmond and Charlie, the freighter, Ben, DHARMA, and the flashforwards became more dominant. However, his is still a fascinating story and his reappearance could shed more light on the nature of The Monster(s).

True. But this hits on the main issue I have with the timeline being reset at the start of season six: if you get one or two actors back to be alive again, you have to get all the major actors back or be met with endless "but why not Boone/Shannon/Charlie/Etc. And I don't see that being feasible.

Eko's death is the one scene I hate out of this show. I would love to see him return. Anything is possible on Lost.

I was so gutted when Eko bit the dust - he was a brilliant character. I'm just not so sure about a return now because so much has happened since then. How would he be back? Would Hurley see him? Would we see him through a flashback? Would that be enough for Adewale?

He is one of the only cast members who has not popped up again since dying so I would have no trouble seeing him in someway during the 6th season.

It's also ironic that the producers have recently said that their original arc for Eko had him lasting until the end of the 5th season, where he would be killed off. So he wouldn't have been around for season 6 anyways.

While Eko's arc was complete, in my mind, anyway, his character was fascinating. I wouldn't mind if he showed up again as a "ghost" or in a flashback. He was a powerful presence, so if he should show up again, it would be a pretty dramatic moment.

I liked the scene if only for the fact that it was so tantalizing. It was the first time in the series that an apparition of a dead person flat-out stated he wasn't really that person.

I wonder if Locke's season 5 fate was originally meant to be Eko's. When AAA left the show they may have decided to get their original plan but used Locke instead.

Could be. I've also wondered if the storyline would've gone something like this:

Locke and Eko were meant to be somewhat spiritual rivals throughout the show. Two men of faith battling over their opposing views and methods contrasted to Jack and Lock's man of science and man of faith debate. This would've climaxed in season 5 when Locke, now known to be Faux-Locke, kills Eko in a shocking cliffhanger. We're left to speculate why Locke too such drastic action in killing a beloved character only to find out it was Faux-Locke getting rid of one of the soldiers of good/few people who could've outed him.

I think Locke's fate was always supposed to happen. It's been revealed to be such an integral part of the entire series' story arc that if it weren't originally intended, then they had originally intended a completely different story, IMO. Plus, Locke's fate echoes his very first flashback episode: Locke believes he's special and has a special destiny, but it never gets him anywhere, and the world turns its back on him. His whole life played out exactly the way "The Walkabout" did. That episode could be said to foreshadow his entire character arc. It's tragic. And perfect.
