The long-awaited Doctor Who RPG from Cubicle 7 will be released in October. Cubicle’s Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space (MSRP $59.95) is the third licensed Doctor Who RPG. FASA published one in the 1980s, which was followed by a Virgin Publishing release in 1991. Cubicle’s new Doctor Who RPG is based on the current iteration of the popular BBC TV series, and features lots of full color pictures from the show.

Cubicle’s Doctor Who RPG, which was created to appeal to both the experienced and first time gamer, comes in a deluxe box set that contains a 144-page Gamemaster’s Guide, an 86-page Player’s Guide, a 30-page Adventures Book, 4-page Quick Start Guide, Pre-Generated Character Sheets, Blank Character Sheets, Gadget Sheets, tokens and dice.

The new Doctor Who RPG was written by David Chapman, who penned several of Eden Studios’ products

Like the show's Timelord, players in the game can visit any era of history and range across the universe, though they have to keep a wary eye out for Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Plasmavores, Slitheen and others.

Shame my role playing games are long behind me!

I'll be Tegan...if anyone wants me I'll be in my room...actually scratch that, I'll be in Nyssa's room ;)

*Gamesmaster rolls against Nyssa's constitution and scores a fail*

Nyssa still hasn't regained the strength to get out of bed and assist the Doctor.

:)

is this the throw the dice stuff, or the full dress up stuff?

either way, finally a way for bigger nerds than I, to make themselves known.

a bit pricey regardless! I'd give it a shot, but BBC and its licensing dept need to come off the price a bit or this game will tank faster than the Shadowrun action figure game a few years back.

I'm just glad I have my old fasa stuff and the Timelord rpg from the 90s.

roll the dice stuff...

And nerdy or not the friends I made role playing at university are still my best friends so it's a good place to meet like minded people if nothing else :)

AFAIK it's a new system developed by Cubicle 7.

That's just as well. For some reason I really can't see Doctor Who work in D20. Maybe in Savage Worlds.

I am firmly in the D100 camp since I abandoned 3.5.

The revamped RQ and Cthulu rules seem suitable for running any kind of campaign.

Basic Role Playing is suitable for running any kind of bland, boring, vanilla campaign. :p Of course we all like it but it's the Aunt Edna of RPG systems: nice enough, but most people would rather not spend a night in the pub with it.

For Doctor Who, I think we need something a little more dynamic and exciting, like Fuzion, Silhouette or the Unisystem.

All games I have never heard of.

Fuzion seems to be like HERO which is similar to D100 is it not?
Silhouette sounds very like Vampire but with d6 instead of d10
Unisystem doesn't seem forthcoming about how their game works.

But if you are talking old RPG's TFOS would be ideal for a Dr Who RPG. :rommie:

Yeah you don't wanna know the DR of dalekanium.

Not to mention how many skill points a Time Lord gets at each level.

The cover art is nice but I wish they'd put images of all the Doctors on - they clearly don't have issues since the montage in The Next Doctor and it seems a bit silly to just have Tennant on there given that Matt Smith will likely be in the role by the time this hits the shelves...

So wait. How are people supposed to play Time Lords when they're all supposed to be dead?

And yeah, the price tag does seem awfully steep. Seems to me you'd want to make these as inexpensive as possible, so you'd have a better chance of attracting young fans who may not have tried RPG's before. No doubt they'l be these big glossy hardback tomes. Meh. Back in my FASA days paperback manuals were good enough for us! (still got mine)
