That said, I blame Bay - not Orci and Kurtzman.

After reading this, I think you should.
"The testicles are in the script," Kurtzman said. "Well, it's a construction machine, so you of course have wrecking balls."
I just got back from the last Star Trek showing at our IMAX. It let us out around 9 p.m., and there were about 35 people in line for the midnight Transformers show.Just got back from Transformers. Man, my ass is numb. I have no problem with a two hour thirty movie, but there simply wasn't enough plot for two and a half hours.

Borgminister, I'm right there with you on that...

Orci and Kurtzman didn´t come up with the idea. Their co-writer did. Sorry, O and K are still two of the best writers out there.
While they don't appear to have opposed it, it is not at all clear they would have thought of this on their own.Although they couldn't remember the origins of Devastator's testicles. Orci thought that Bay had demanded "a big pair of testicles." But Kurtzman reminded him that it was actually co-writer Ehren Krueger's idea, when the three of them were holed up for a few months writing the script after the writers' strike. "The testicles are in the script," Kurtzman said. "Well, it's a construction machine, so you of course have wrecking balls. And Michael, immediately, of course, loved it."
Given the sound levels at modern cinemas with blockbusters like that, it's practically child abuse. A three year old's hearing is a lot more sensitive than that of an adult.
To be fair, those "mother and baby" screenings have the volume turned waaayyyy down (so my wife says, I wouldn't go near a cinema filled with babies and toddlers for anything less than a six figure prize).Given the sound levels at modern cinemas with blockbusters like that, it's practically child abuse. You would think.
That said, my sister took my 3 month old niece to see Star Trek!
Yup. I'm not kidding. She was born 28th Feb 2009. One of the cinemas in Manchester actually has "mother & baby" shows on a thursday morning.
I said to my sister "Did she not go insane?"- but she said "Nope, she slept right through it".
Well, at least she's starting young...
Whew, he has some awful things to say about the story and dialog. I wonder if it will impact the box office at all.23% fresh now. Even the few positive ratings are damning it with faint praise... like this guy...
A great idea; the lady across the street is due in August; I might try to find one for her. She went to see Star Trek in the IMAX with me, so the baby already has a big dose of loud Trek.To be fair, those "mother and baby" screenings have the volume turned waaayyyy down (so my wife says...)
I like it!Well when your niece learns to speak, instead of shouting "no" to everything, she'll say "I will not allow you to lecture me!"

I'm going to keep an eye on the IMAX, of course; but I'm not holding my breath. I hope someone will say around here if it happens. Not initially, probably; but it might chop the legs out from under it and extend Trek's theater life some...
