Bought a Wii....

I was at Wal-Mart tonight, mulling over whether to buy the last Wii they had or get another PS3 game, and after overhearing a woman arguing with her husband on her cell phone about whether or not to buy it, I made the decision for her and bought it myself

I got Wii Fit because my girlfriend had been wanting to try it, and I must say, I had my doubts, but after doing the step aerobics and other various exercises, I'm sore as hell.

It's a pretty nifty system so far... the Wii Sports is pretty fun and I've already downloaded Super Castlevania IV and Ninja Gaiden onto the Virtual Console. I can't decide whether to get Super Paper Mario or Super Mario Galaxy of Twilight Princess to play next. Any suggestions?

Of those three I would say that my favorite is Mario Galaxy, followed by Twilight Princess and then Super Paper Mario. All are fun and worth playing.

If you want to play some multiplayer game with your girlfriend I would highly recommend Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy are great choices. Avoid Twilight Princess. It was originally made for the previous generation Nintendo Gamecube console but then "ported" to the Wii with worse control. The graphics are blurry, the textures are bland and muddy and the game just does not play well with the Wii setup. I would suggest the previous Zelda game Windwaker....it is far superior in every aspect, and it still looks great due to its graphical style. I suggest grabbing Tiger Woods 10 that comes with the new motionplus addon. It is by far the best golf game i have ever played and it is miles ahead of the accuracy that you see in Wii Sports golf. If you are a fan of old style point and click adventure PC games i highly recommend Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is a great game that has great control and uses the Wii Remote sucessfully. If you want a second Wii remote then Wii Play is a decent pickup, it comes with a Wii Remote (no nunchuck) and it had a few mini-games on the disc. The extra 10 bucks spent on the package is well worth it just because of the game Tanks! it's a really fun update of the tank portion of the old Atari 2600 game Combat!

Have fun with your Wii, but really do your homework before buying any old random game....there is a LOT of shovelware and plain old shit on the Wii (physical discs and Wii-ware both) Good Luck!

Ah. I played both Windwaker and Twilight Princess on the GameCube and was interested in seeing how the play dynamics changed between the two systems. So, I'll probably avoid Twilight Princess, then.

Mario Galaxy I've heard is pretty fun, but is it anything like Mario Sunshine (which I didn't enjoy all that much)? I was going to buy Tiger Woods for the PS3, but now that I've got a spiffy new Wii and it comes with the new motion sensor, I'm going to pick it up for Wii instead.

My sister has had a Wii for about two years, and I've noticed a bunch of her games look like shovelware, so I'll be sure to look into games before purchasing them, or renting them.

Thanks for the recommendations :techman:

Twilight Princess on the Wii consists of some Wii remote aiming for the bow and hookshot etc. The game also has Link holding his sword in his right hand instead of his left hand. They didnt just flip the character they reversed the whole damn game. The entire game world is flipped around so what was left in the Gamecube version is now Right in the Wii version. The aiming with the Wii Remote is cool, but splitting the standard controls between the remote and the nunchuck you really lose that intuitive control. Plus they have the wretched Wii-mote `waggle` just to swing the sword...fun for the first 5 minutes, then its just a pain in the ass.

Ok, i love Mario 64. Galaxy is amazinginly incredible. I HATE, and i mean with a capital HATE Mario Sunshine. We are on the same page here....grab Galaxy and be prepared to lose some evenings just playing for the sheer joy of it.

Ok, put down the PS3 version of Tiger Woods and run (don`t walk) to the Wii version. I know a lot of people spout the old adage `gameplay before graphics`but this is the perfect example. The game is graphically far far inferior to the Xbox and PS3 versions (but i do have to say that the Uncanny Valley really rears its ugly head in the HD versions of the game) The gameplay and features on the Wii version are unbeatable however. The control is smooth as butter and after a few holes you will get an instinctive feel for the controls and you will start getting better shots just because the control is that precise. The disc golf game is damn fun and it quite honestly could have been its own game. If i`m not mistaken i think the Wii version has more courses than the PS3 or the Xbox versions of the game (please correct me if i`m wrong) You seem to have a familiarity with the Gamecube so you should know that Nintendo is releasing the Metroid Prime trilogy on the Wii, the 2 original Gamecube games will be getting graphical enhancements plus Wii-Remote aiming controls. just a FYI in case you are interested.

Now is looking like a decent time to get a Wii. There's some good looking titles coming out in 2010. I'm tempted to pick a Wii up myself

The game also has Link holding his sword in his right hand instead of his left hand.

You know how much I hate when people bring that up?! The damn fanboys don't care about the fact that the whole game is backwards, just that Link is a rightie!

For the record... there is no Mario Sunshine....

I'm mulling that decision over myself. Tiger Woods 2010 with Motion Plus is what got me interested and this new game Conduit coming out today or tomorrow may be enough to push me over the edge.

The sad part it, I've owned a Wii before and got rid of it, and now I'm thinking about getting another one. (It's a sickness I tell ya)

If you want to play with others-Rayman's Raving Rabbids TV Party is hysterical. Lots of fun for the $.:bolian:

Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are great game. Super Paper Mario was great, but I love all of the Paper Mario games. My son loves Mario Kart Wii, but not exactly my favorite. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I shop for games for the virtual console, some really great oldies to choose from. Having said that I typically buy more games for the 360 than the Wii.

Lol yeah that sucks. Ive done that before, but when games not whole consoles

A little off topic but somewhat relevant; I was reading some stuff by analysts and they say that one of the reasons why all the good Wii games look to be coming out either this year or the next is because the game makers vastly under-estimated how well the Wii would do. By the time they realized the Wii wasn't just a fad it was a year or so after the launch. As a result they only started making some real games for the system within the last 2 or so years and we will finally start seeing the impact of it.

Your next buy should be (and your girlfriend will really love you for that one) Wii Fit. The exercise part is amazing with that and the board is just awesome for skateboard/snowboard games. And you can use it with Rayman TV party too!

Another game that was just a must for me was Force Unleashed. The controls are just amuzing (even if saber movement itself is not full control) and the game gives a duel mode.

When I had my last Wii, I had Wii Fit. Now despite my out of shape body, I do go to a gym pretty regularily (2-3 times a week) and do some cardio mixed with 5 machines for strenght training. And in all the times I've gone to the gym, I have NEVER been as sore and as in as much pain as I was after a week with Wii Fit. I simply couldn't do it, I can't imagine for the life of me what it was that was so hard on my body, but it was. I hurt in places I didn't know I had places.

I'm the same way. I was giggling with glee at some of the titles on the Virtual Console and literally just shut the system off to avoid maxing out my credit card on NES and Super NES games.

Actually, Wii Fit is the game I bought with it. I was at work all day and my girlfriend was trying the step aerobics and apparently her son booted her off pad so he could do it

I actually haven't bought a game for my Wii in over a year (since Mario Kart.) It's been a wasteland of casual games and shovelware since then. But if you go through the back catalog, there's plenty to like:

Super Mario Galaxy: Even if you hated Sunshine, you'll love this. It's seriously a candidate for the best Mario game ever.

Metroid Prime Corruption: The Metroid games are just awesome. Period. The atmosphere is one of the most engaging in any game. My advice though is to wait for the three pack coming very soon. It includes all three games in the Prime series with enhanced controls for the price that Corruption is selling for right now.

Resident Evil 4: Even if you've played the Gamecube version I reccomend this. The new controls and new content enhance the game so much that it's almost a completely different game.

No More Heroes: Does swinging around a lightsaber and seeing people's heads fly off in a geyser of cell shaded blood sound like fun to you? If yes, buy this game right now.

Super Smash Bros Brawl.: Get three friends together and prepare for the most fun that it is possible to have with a video game console. Seriously. Hours and hours and hours of my (and my friends') time has been wasted by this game.

I was gonna say, this thread needed way more Metroid. Can't wait for the rerelease if only to replay the first game for the third time...

Yeah, how is Metroid not more loved by the gaming crowd? I mean, everyone that plays it seems to love it, but it's never achieved the iconic "must buy" status with the public that Mario or Zelda have. It's a shame. The series has always been stellar. I would think the the sci-fi setting would especially appeal to the people here on this board.

I've never gotten into Metroid. Although I agree with all of the points you mentioned. Weird.

As for Wii Fit, I was thinking about picking it up, but did not because I figured it wasn't going to really be a good workout. Did I have the wrong impression?
