$^!# I got laid off.

Well, this sucks. Got called into the manager's office today to find out that I'm being laid off. It seems the company doesn't have enough money to continue to pay all of us, and, being the newest artist there, I got the axe. :wah:

I don't know what I'm going to do now; there aren't any other companies working in the computer graphics/game art area where I live, so other than shitty retail jobs, I'm up a creek. Frak. This also comes just in time for an expensive medical-related trip I'm taking in July, and now I'll have no insurance after the end of this month. :scream:

So I'm pretty pissed and upset. Make me feel better, awesome denizens of the TrekBBS. Please? :(

It's my birthday today and we had a huge party all weekend. Everyone got extremely drunk and ate an improbable amount of barbecued animals. Does that help?

That sucks! I pray that you find a good job soon.

I'm sure you probably have, but regarding your health insurance, have you looked at COBRA?

At least you should be able to get unemployment pay. I was forced to resign last August, meaning no checks at all... Does that help?

Seriously, I'm sorry. Hope things will pick up soon. Are you able to move somewhere, maybe stay with friends and family if they have something in that field nearby.

Not to sound callous about your situation, but why don't you move if there aren't any jobs in your area? A cursory glance at Monster yielded over 400 graphic design positions. Get that resume moving. :) Good luck to you.

This is what I always wonder when people say there are "no jobs here". Jobs don't come to you, especially in this economy; those who do well will be flexible and willing to make sacrifices and changes to get what they want. Those who aren't end up in crappy retail jobs if that's all there is.

Moving is a valid option is you have the money to do it. Not all of us, for whatever reason, just can just pull up and go to a better job market at the drop of the hat.

Happy Birthday, Deckerd!:)

How many candles on your cake?

On my birthday, I'll need a fire extinguisher to put 'em all out...

I just saved alot of money by switching to GEICO.

Seriously, telecommute! Lots of companies will work with remote employees these days. Get those resumes and portfolio samples on that interweb thingy!!
