Harriet Oleson, Little House. Pompousity's even more stuck-up auntie.

How did I forget that one? (Years of therapy, probably.)

Yeah. I would vote for her for the win.

Baltar was another good choice too. He has it in the bag for "worst consequences" category.

Captain Picard also has to qualify. In fact you could proably say the same about all the TNG characters except Data who was never really all that judgemental. Dr Crusher also might be a exception.

Jason

Alan Partridge :bolian:

Although Chris Morris from The Day Today is arguably slightly more pompous, more Paxmanesque.

I don't think House is pompous at all. He's a self-loathing drug addict and any of his egocentric qualities are merely a smoke screen to mask his hatred for himself.

I always thought the third Doctor from Doctor Who was a pompous blowhard.

Interesting view on House. I think he may have deteriorated into a self-hating drug addict, but I think his arrogant attitude towards patients predates it.

I think the 6th doctor was much more arrogant and egotistical than the 3rd.

I found both Frasier and Windchester to be on eqaul levels. Both let their real selves shine threw, and both admitted and except himulity and defeat. Frasier did, however, show more defeat and humility a little mroe often though.

While on the other hand I don't recall Frank Burns ever owning up. Also, Niles' wife.

Ha! The second I saw this thread I figured it had to be about Winchester. Of all the TV shows I obsessively watch (which as of now isnt a whole lot), Winchester definitely takes the cake. He ended up being one of my favorite characters on MASH despite his blue-blooded arrogance.

I wouldn't call Drs House, Cox, or Romano pompus...just more sarcastic and grumpy. XP

Let's not forget B5's Londo Mollari, Al Bester, and John Sheridan.

Captain James T. Kirk

Gaius Baltar

I know this is TV, but I would argue that the movie portrayals of James Bond after the passing of Bernard Lee became very pompous without Lee's "M" to ground them.

I don't think Dr. Cox, Dr. House, or Dr. McKay qualify as "pompous." I think the more appropriate term is "abrasive, egocentric assholes." They're more in the same category as Dr. Smith from Lost in Space, Arnold J. Rimmer from Red Dwarf, & Eric Cartman from South Park.

How DARE you!! Mind your manners or you shall LOSE your friends!
