Ooh these sound divine! I'm trying these.

Two questions - what's "dl" as a measurement, and when you say fry on the stove, you mean the rings on the top, don't you?

heheh.. oops.. Dl is deciliter, which is 100 ml.. a cup is 2.4 dl.. so a little less than half a cup.

Fry on the stove, then i do mean ontop of the stove, using a pan (skillet?).
Sorry, I do my foodblogging in Swedish.. :alienblush:

No worries! I think Canadians call that part of the oven the stove too - so I get confused a lot at the moment :)

:D I love it.. Gonna make "toad in the hole" and check what face my boy makes hahhaha...

Definitely waffles. I'm a crispy kind of guy and American pancakes at least are always so fluffy and starchy that after a few bites I need a big glass of milk to be able to go on. Waffles have a similar flavor but without these downfalls, and are far easier to eat with your hands on the way out the door.

Depends on what I'm in the mood for. Sometimes it's pancakes, sometimes it's waffles. It's best to go to one of those 'open all hours' types of places, where the coffee is bad and the place reeks of cigarettes. Man do those places make some good waffle's and pancakes!

Waffles AND pancakes stack on top of each other... Why choose?

Mmmmmmm....

Quoted for truth. Why choose when you can have both.

Oh and they have to be REAL not that pre-made toaster crap. That's a sin against creation.

Pancakes. With good, real maple syrup, preferably from Ontario or Quebec. None of this store bought "maple syrup product" shit, if it doesn't come in a tin or a glass bottle, you're doing it wrong. :p

(Full disclosure: my uncle owns and operates a sugar bush in SW Ontario, so I'm a little biased in my maple products. ;))

ooh - does he offer online ordering?

Unfortunately not. Most sugar bushes—my uncle's included—are pretty local family operations, so they don't tend to ship their products out very far. In fact, I think that in Ontario, at least, the provincial maple syrup association regulates these things pretty carefully... individual syrup makers can only sell their stuff in a designated territory, for the most part.

Incidentally, I'm going to have to try some of these pancake recipes, they sound good! One thing I've always liked (that would probably work with something like a Scottish recipe) is to finely chop up an apple and add the pieces to the batter. Tastes great when you fry it up. :)

I can definitely go for either, but I find I eat waffles more often. In fact, I usually have them several times a week for breakfast... but I must shamefully admit that they're Eggo waffles from the freezer. :alienblush:

I'm horrible, I know.

Syrup, of course! I may not embrace every Canadian stereotype, but using maple syrup is one I can't imagine ever turning my back on.

I prefer maple syrup myself, Honey is ok on waffles once in awhile.

Now, going to kick over an anthill but I strongly dislike fruit IN my pancakes but its ok ON or NEAR them. Same with waffles.

Chocolate chips are ok though. :techman:
