Is the term "British" offensive?

What's also ironic is that the rest of the planet thinks of you all as shit from the same bag.

That reminded me of another post I read of yours the other day. Don't really get it. Rather than typing all that out why not just write "I'm a cunt"
It'd save time
How about if you guys act like civilized gentlemen and not world leaders? ;)

Because, unlike the United Nations, Moderators do take action.

But there are divides. The Welsh hate the English and the Scots, The Irish hate the English and the Welsh, The Scots hate everyone and the English refuse to get involved as we know we are superior anyway. That's why the United Kingdom is ironic.

What's also ironic is that the rest of the planet thinks of you all as shit from the same bag.

It's almost like religion.

You're American, right ?

You really can't talk, then, about being universally hated.

Sure I can.

Not many other people on the planet know or care about the petty bickering among the parts of the UK.

We think of you, when we think of you, as a whole.

Think of it this way: when you consider of the US, do you worry that people from the northern states think of those from the south as pig-fucking, shotgun-humping inbred Jesus-freak racists?

Or do you think of us as shit from the same bag?

slightly off topic here but I was thinking that with our long history of trade, Imperialism and basically acting like pricks on the world stage that this would make a better national anthem than 'god save the queen' it also fits in with our supposed sense of humour :

(we might need to rename the country)

As for the OP? I don't think that the term "British" is offensive but the British mostly are. I say this as a Brit, Limey or whatever you like to call us.;)

I don't think the term "British" is offensive at all, it is only really the name of the geographic region rather than the official designation of the actual nation, the United Kingdom.

As a whole, people are becoming more and more thin-skinned as time goes on, to the point where everything is offensive to someone and if someone says something that "offends" you, he or she needs to be fired from the job immediately.

There was a newspaper story a while back about a former college athlete who went missing and was presumed dead in another country. Later on there was a completely unrelated story about that same college's dwindling "student body" at sporting events. Someone was offended because he thought "student body" referred to the missing person.

The days of "agree to disagree" or "respectfully disagree" are long gone. Tolerance and diversity only applies to people who think and act exactly like you do.

For the record... As much as the Spanish-speaking cultures cry about it, they are not "Americans". You never hear Canadians and Brazilians fighting to be called Americans (the Canadians are likely to kill you if you try).

American is the diminutive of the United States of America just like Mexican is the diminutive of Los Estados Unidos Méxicanos.

And I hate "Estadounidense". If we're Estadounidenses, so are Méxicanos.

And there is no continent called America. There are North America and South America, which are the Americas, but never America. The only America is the U.S.A. It's the same with how the United Mexican States call themselves Mexico for short.

United States is the equivalent of Bundesrepublik or Estados Unidos. You don't hear Deutschen calling themselves Bundesrepublikaner and you don't see Méxicanos calling themselves Estadounidenses. Same thing. We are Americans and the short form of our country is America.

You're gonna have to deal with the fact that in Latin America Americans are "Estadounidenses". I know it must be hard for you to accept but for us all people from the continent know as The Americas are "Americanos". It's not done to irk people from the US it's just the way it's worked out for Spanish speakers language wise.

How kind of you to project your ignorance onto the rest of the world. ;)

I for one am well aware of divisions within the US, UK and many other nations. Do you see the Chinese and Tibetans as shit from the same bag too?

I said "petty bickering," Canadian. You're equating the Chinese/Tibet divide with the Welsh/Scots divide.

Put down the syrup and do try to keep up. Maybe have a Frenchman walk you through it.

I don't know why anyone would be offended by being called a Brit, unless of course they were from a different country, even then, why be offended?

Talking about offended, did anyone see Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow last night? If not here's a link, the comedian who comes on about 16:50 has a good routine about it. Starts around 20 minutes in.
Sorry to our international friends, only available in the UK.

edit

Youtube link (don't know if this will work) for others.

Michael McIntyre is brilliant.
If it was the one about going into Wolverhampton and seeing everyone in tracksuits and saying this town must be athletic:guffaw:

I'm ashamed to say I've been laughing a lot at him lately...

There are some fantastic comedians in the show too.

Do not be ashamed ~ he's adorable, or maybe that's why you're ashamed ;)
He just seems to be a bit of a twat and I don't usually find him funny... until this series.

Perhaps you missed the smiley, I was kidding.

That said, the Welsh/Scots/English divide is hardly minor. There is a real possibility that the UK may break up along ethnic lines in the not too distant future.

Consider visiting a library with the same frequency as you visit McDonalds, you might learn something, ya beef bloated, golf cart bound Yank.

Bear in mind, I only say that because you Yanks are all shit from the same bag. ;)

The fact is, most people who have any contact with Americans are well aware of the divisions within your country. The fact that you regard Scots and Englishman as one and the same is a reflection of YOUR ignorance, not that of the world as a whole.
