iPhone OS 3.0 out today

Unified landscape is one of my favorite parts actually (second only to search).
It may seem like a small thing, but its' "comforting", in a weird way, to know that you can always turn sideways and it will work like you'd expect. On previous versions it was horrible inconsistent.
Currently landscape keyboard works in all *native* iPhone apps - and the API is there to add that functionality to all 3rd party apps in future updates, too.

There's no reason really why anybody should feel negatively about it! All of the changes are welcome.
I guess the only real gripe one could make is that it's not a SUPER feature-rich update. There are MANY changes but most are subtle - which is totally fine by me.
Those subtle changes go a long way in improving the overall feel of the phone.

Yup, that's a fairly widespread problem, apparently - it should settle down later this evening, after the UK goes to bed.

To anyone who has a SIM lock on their phone, make sure you deactivate it before you update. I had to pause the update, figure out that I was looking at "unlock" in a foreign language, put the code in, and then reconnect the phone. The problem was that I had to do it like 4 times before iTunes recognized my phone (at the time essentially dead) again to resume the update. That was about 5 minutes of stress I didn't need. 
All good now though. This is frakking sweet! The copy/paste alone is awesome.
I'm not sure how much better Voice Memos is than Quick Voice, but I'll do some more exploring. I haven't even tried the other features yet.

I think so. I believe I read that each different device (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, iPoud Touch 1.0, iPod Touch 2.0) all have different versions that are hardware specific. I might be wrong though.
Just plug it into iTunes and get the software to look for the update - it will soon tell you what's available and if you have to pay for it.
I kept after it, and maybe after about 15 minutes of trying, I finally got thru and got it installed. Haven't really messed with it yet, tried the "shake to shuffle" feature on the Ipod and it worked well. Landscape keyboard is good.
Error during update (not clue what or why) crapped my install and I had to restore. Worked fine after that but it I had to manually move some things over and back to get it back to the way it was.
