Monday (6/15) Box Office - Trek #6 - $0.7 million

I stopped caring after the second one, to tell you the truth. Depends on how it looks, though. Maybe I'll go watch it anyway.

I wouldn't blame anyone for skipping Spider-man 3. It definitely did not live up to the standards of the previous films, but it was partly because they forced in too many storylines and too many villians. That way partly the producers fault since they forced Raimi to add Venom to the movie even though he didn't like the character. It's not a bad movie, just not as good.

I just checked, and our IMAX is adding a second Star Trek showing this weekend: 7:00 and 9:45 p.m. It had been a 9:30 show.

Those will run until Transformers starts on the 24th.

Wow! That's prime-time shows. Obviously they're still making a lot of money off Trek.

Transformers is actually a Dreamworks production. I'm not really sure how much money Paramount gets from TF. Indiana Jones was a Lucasfilm production ,Lucas,Spielberg and Ford got most of the profit. Iron man was a Marvel production

ST is all Paramount

Apparently, for IJ4, Paramount only got its money back and everything after that went to Lucas, Spielberg and Ford.

Why would Paramount agree to that?

Actually, here's a rare description of how the studio and everyone else were contracted to split profits. I guess Paramount only received 12.5% of anything above what it spent to produce and market the film.

Paramount executives declined to be interviewed, as did Spielberg, Lucas and Ford. However, several people familiar with the deal behind "Crystal Skull" spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidential arrangement.

According to these people, Paramount spent about $185 million to make the movie and will pay at least $150 million to market it worldwide. The studio will earn a distribution fee of 12.5% of the revenue it receives from the film's release in all media, including theaters, DVD and television.

In comparison, 20th Century Fox received a distribution fee of 6% to 8% for releasing Lucas' "Star Wars" movies. Fox's fee was smaller because Lucasfilm finances the "Star War" movies entirely and effectively pays the studio for distribution. Fox earned between $50 million and $75 million per picture, said a person familiar with the finances.

"Crystal Skull" will have to generate around $400 million for Paramount for the studio to make its money back and earn its distribution fee. Only at that point will Lucas, Spielberg, Ford and smaller profit participants, including screenwriter David Koepp, begin collecting their portion.

Paramount will take 12.5 cents from every dollar thereafter, while Lucas and company will earn 87.5 cents.

That must mean the demand is still fairly strong there.

Mine still hasn't picked it up. Not holding my breath.

Maybe for Father's Day?
