Star Trek: The Exhibit

I live in the Philadelphia, PA area, Star Trek: The Exhibit is appearing in our area at the Franklin Institute for the next couple of months. So the wife and I went to check it out this past weekend.

One thing really set me off, because it's an example of the lack of respect everyone has for DS9.

Anyway, we were in the gift shop at the end of the display, after going through everything. Neither of us really had the intention of buying anything; we were just browsing.

Well, we came across a display case of post cards of different Trek characters. They were only $0.93 each ($1 after tax). And I saw one of Weyoun, probably my favorite of all Trek characters. So I had an idea of purchasing a few postcards, maybe five or six, and then putting them in a picture frame to hang in my house.

I was looking through the postcards, thinking I could do a DS9 theme, or even perhaps a Dominion theme, so I started looking for other relevant characters. I found Female Shapeshifter and a Jem'Hadar, as well as one of the Defiant.

On the back of each postcard, it listed the character's name. I found one that said "Gul Dukat." I was so exited. Then I turned it over to look at the picture and saw this:

I was just so pissed off, I dropped the postcards I had in my hand and walked out. How could this mistake be made? And who is to blame? Is it the Franklin Institue? Is Star Trek: The Exhibit themselves? Is it the people who made the postcards? It doesn't matter, it was just a real let-down.

I mean, I enjoy TNG. Chain-Of-Command is probably in my top 3 of TNG episodes. But how can you say a picture of Gul Madred is Gul Dukat? It just really irks me!!!

Thanks for letting me vent.

For failing to verify the canonical validity of the merchandise of a temporary exhibitor?

Reminds of when the last Star Wars exhibition passed through Chicago. Went to the Museum of Science and Industry to check it out with my wife. They had a Han Solo costume there, marked as from 'A New Hope'. Problem was it had brown pants with the yellow bloodstripe down each side. Oops.

(exactly like this...)

Pff everyone knows that in A New Hope the strip is red. Oh wait this is a Star Trek Message board. ;)
