I just returned from four days, my first visit, on the set of Star Trek Phase II. I have to say it is the best Star Trek experience I have ever had, dwarfing all conventions, events, showings, and even the movie.

Complain about the movie all you want. If it is not the Trek to your liking, forget it and move on. It all shrank to
insignificance when I realized WE ARE MAKING STAR TREK. Here. Now. There is no feeling like being with a whole bunch of people working on a quality project for the love of it.

If you have not seen any of Phase Two go immediately to
http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/ and download and view an episode. I personally recommend World Enough and Time as a good starter. The quality is amazing.

Then, get involved. If nothing else send a couple a bucks
(heck man, how much would a DVD cost you?). If you can, arrange a visit to the set in Port Henry, NY. It is truly
awesome to stand on the bridge or the transporter.

THIS IS YOUR FATHER'S STAR TREK.

The experience of working on a movie - large or small, professional or amateur - is really extraordinary. In many ways working on a low-budget movie or fan film is more exciting and rewarding than a larger project.

Of course, any time you gave me a flat choice I'd take the money. But still...

THIS IS YOUR FATHER'S STAR TREK.

No it's not. It's a fan film.

And your gushing reminds me of the IMDB posters who sing high praises of movies made by The Asylum, and then when you look at their posting history, all they've ever done on IMDB is praise Asylum movies because they work there.

Enjoy it for what it is, but don't pretend that your Muscle Tribe of Danger and Excellence is something it's not.

They're both Star Trek, and they're both worth enjoying.

Well...Phase 2 is interesting and there is alot of talent involved as well as admirable passion, but having watched all the episodes I really can't get into them AS Star Trek. But if you can, more power to ya.

What I've seen of Phase 2 has been a pretty good. They know how to tell a decent short story.

They don't approach Hidden Frontier and its spinoffs in terms of sheer story scope (let's face it, the Federation/Tholian war was pretty badass), of course, but that's largely because HF has been doing this longer and has a faster development cycle (in part due to their heavy reliance on green-screens). So far Phase 2 seems content to stick with episodic storytelling, and for that they're doing a fine job.

But let's face it, Trek XI was pretty damn awesome, and---no matter how much I may enjoy them---no mere fanfilm can really compare.

So what does Phase II have to do with Star Trek XI again?
Good question. S'kai? Any help?

THIS IS YOUR FATHER'S STAR TREK.

OKAY. BUT THIS SEEMS KIND OF OFF-TOPIC FOR THE FORUM.

This sounds like a topic for GENERAL DISCUSSION. It is a good topic, just not related to Star Trek 2009.
Fan Productions might seem at first to be a better bet, as that's where the rest of the Phase II discussion goes. However, this post:

...causes me to suspect that the denizens of that forum were not the target audience. I'll leave this open for a little while to give S'kai a chance to respond or to request a move.

it reads like a promotion for phase 2 that was targeted for the forum but
really dosnt have anything to do with forum.

If the point is to invite open discussion about the quality of phase II versus Trek XI, that could get quite ugly.

Because (I would hope) real fans of Trek would be loathe to criticize a fan-made work in defense of the new movie.

Seems even more juvenile than usual...

Like I said, both works are Star Trek. One official, one unofficial, but both with the same spirit.

Well, I do love TV Trek, the first 10 movies less, and I have seen some fan productions and will watch more, but not nuTrek, other than the trailers, which I didn't like at all.

^ You should see the movie, if only to know whether you do or do not like it. It's worth the knowledge.
