Does the Uhura twist mean we won't get a good pon farr storyline?

Looks like the nixed the pon farr concept so Spock could have a regular squeeze.

And how would Pon Farr prevent his from having a regular squeeze?

It sure did not prevent Sarek from doing the same.

If anything, a regular squeeze is a great thing to have when you are in Pon farr. Makes things a lot easier.

Well, Spock has an arranged marriage; how's your jealous regular squeeze gonna like that.

Who said anything about the regular squeeze being jealous? Perhaps she'll want to join in on the Pon Farr action...a hubba hubba. ;)

She most likely won't care if the arranged marriage is never consumated. And why the hell would horny-Pon farr-underdoing Spock get bothered with someone he hasn't seen since they were children, if he is having a regular relationship with someone he loves? He's got someone to provide "relief" right there by his side. ;)

Heck, even in Amok Time he even thought at one point of resolving the problem in the easier way by doing it with Chapel... but she "did not understand"...

So, the concept of Vulcans having arranged marriages should be thrown out in favor of getting together with whomever like humans do? Thats what Spock is doing in this film..unless the timeline changed the whole concept of Vulcan marriage rituals. I would find an explanation to that quite interesting.

You mean, like T'Pring?
Okay. Here's my concept for how they can deal with the Pon Farr issue:

T'Pring survived the destruction of Vulcan, and is still the same cold, self-serving ... person ... that we're familiar with. But Stonn did not survive, nor any other suitors she would consider likely candidates. And with Spock Prime involved in the rebuilding of their society, nuSpock is regarded in a considerably different light by the surviving Vulcans, anyway.

So, Pon Farr approaches for Spock and T'Pring, and T'Pring, despite knowing that Spock has formed a relationship with Uhura, insists on her, um, perogatives. Uhura challenges, resulting in a bout of combat ala Amok Time between her and T'Pring!

Uhura wins somehow, of course, and wins nuSpock - which leaves T'Pring to die alone in the Pon Farr. But Spock Prime takes her, instead, and utilizes the memory of the similarities of his bond with her Prime version to save her and knock her up. "There are too few of us left, and it is logical."

That would be B-plot. A-plot would involve some sort of threat to the new Vulcan colony that Kirk and the rest of the crew are having to deal with while all that is going on.
