Hey I just went, and I'm currently in Germany. I didn't expect the cinema to be packed , but it was. Good news.

That's good to hear because there's been a lot of concern about the international takings. Nice to see people are actually going.

Agreed, that's nice to hear. It would be nicer if the international numbers actually reflected that, but what are you gonna do?

Well, even if it's not a global smash, I think we can safely label the film a success by this point. All further box office gross is just icing on the cake, IMO.

I know this is about Star Trek, but I'm thrilled with how well Up is doing. If any film deserves to dethrone Star Trek it's a Pixar film.

I saw it a third time on Tuesday (9th June) and the rows were still packed. A real change from seeing TUC after it was on for a fortnight and sharing the entire screen with my Dad and two other random cinema goers.

It hasn't actually flopped anywhere, nor has it taken below expectations in each country. The countries with lower takings were those expected to be lower, weren't they?

Oh, I'm not accusing it of flopping anywhere -- not on any level. It seems to be doing fairly well for itself, but it's nowhere near as big a hit overseas as it is in North America. Also, there are a few other films that Trek has beaten handily over here that have overtaken it in other countries (i.e. Angels and Demons).

As I said, though, I still consider it a hit. Just not a global smash. And yes, that was probably expected.

Are the theater counts still the same?

I loved the "rounding up" to 1 million... :D

Excellent hold.

Be interesting to see how Denzel and Eddie impact Trek this weekend. They seem to appeal to different people overall, so...

Star Trek lost 564 theatres today, so its down to 2,638 now. Pretty good considering Wolverine started the week before Trek with a lot more theatres and is already down to 799 now.

How about the theater counts in Germany, Great Britain, etc.--do they stay about the same? I mean if WOM is good, perhaps the fade will be as slow internationally.

This is really good. For it to have bump on a Thursday really makes this weekend look great. Hopefully we can actually approach 6 million this weekend. Fingers crossed.....
