Doctor Who fan buried in TARDIS coffin.

This sounds like it would be tacky, but it's surprisingly touching:

Seb, 26, who bore an amazing resemblance to Dr Who actor David Tennant, died from head injuries after a fall at a friend’s barbecue.

His parents knew he would not want sombre music or a religious ceremony, so they arranged a funeral that celebrated his love of the show.

So the 200 mourners who arrived at the crematorium yesterday were handed a service card with a picture of Seb dressed as Tennant and holding the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver

Emblazoned across the glossy card were the words: “I’m a Time Lord – I’m not a human being. I walk in eternity.”
Nice that it was a spontaneous idea by his family. :techman:

You know, normally I'd roll my eyes at such a thing but the article puts it in a really touching context and it sounded like a fun celebration of the man's life. :)

And, once again, Hartnell's quote is used in an awesome way.

This seems to be happening a couple of times a year - or maybe more, as that's only the funerals which get reported in the papers.
And why not? Apparently, a lot of funerals end with Eric Idle singing Always Look on the Bright Side of Life nowadays. And the Doctor Who theme was played at Hartnell/Troughton companion Michael Craze's funeral, at his request, as he'd loved his time on the series, met his wife there, and then loved his time at conventions during the 1990s.

Amazing stuff, I am amazed they managed to pull it off, i know from personal experience when dealing with a close bereavement you just go into what can only be described as a robotic mode for the first few weeks after it, so I'm suprised they got their head around it all to do this, especially with so young a loss.............good for them.

Although i'm not sure on that taking of pictures at the funeral, but to each their own.

We only get to shuffle off this mortal coil once, so why not make it a memorable leaving.

Oh, bless them. Funerals are as much for the living as the dead. I hope his family and friends took comfort in his send off. 26 is far too young to go. RIP, young man; fandom misses you.

having been to some very generic funerals I think anything that personalises it is a good thing.

Me I want a coffin shaped like a Blakes 7 lifepod and them to play Who wants to live forever by Queen when I go! :)

I dont know it seems kinda tacky, im a big Doctor Who and if you were to ask my family they might think I might like this idea, doesnt seem right, when I die I want:

1) them not to treat my body like its on an episode of CSI
2) to be in a really classy expensive looking coffin

But what if you've been horribly murdered? (Maybe lesbianTennant is actually staking you!) wouldn't you want to have justice from beyond the grave?

Not to sound like a glory hunter or anything, but this guy was cremated at my local crematorium, and my family happened to be there for an uncle's own cremation on the same day and saw it all up there. It's been over the local press for nearly a fortnight.

He should have been buried in that Tardis panel box from "Castrovalva" You know the one where Tegan and Nyssa had to carry the 5th doctor in. Some pictures would help of the zero cabinet

1) them not to treat my body like its on an episode of CSI

What do you mean by that exactly?
well I dont really want my head boiled till only the skull is left, or my body gutted, till its just an emtpy shell.

In the, god forbid, instance something bad where to happen to cause your death I highly doubt your head would be "boiled". Come on man. Even then regular autopsies do involve removing internal organs from the body cavity. Either way, you'll still be injected with chemicals and sewn up in various orifices when you die, so what does it matter? You're dead.

Sorry about your loss.
