Jack Black in Trek XII?

LOL words and all -- he hits those high ahhh ahhhh ahhhhh's...

Has Jack Blacks movies of late been funny? I know this is going back aways but I didn't think School or Rock was funny.

No words as in the ACTUAL words to the theme. The theme has lyrics, Gene made them up so he could get a cut of the fee from Courage which is why Courage never worked with Gene ever again after Season 1

LOL I was thinking when Squig said lyrics he meant "space final frontier"...but you're telling me Trek's theme song has lyrics  !! I never heard of this before this very moment.....now if I only had a link...;)

You can see the lyrics here: http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/trek.asp

Aintitcool has a report form JJ Abrams that he has talked to Jack Black about being in the next movie. JJ said that he hasn't had any meetings with the writers of the movie in order to get ready for the next movie though.

Harry thought maybe he'd be Harry Mudd...but then he goes on to speculate that Black could play a member of the Q continuum!

I don't think that Abrams meant that Black was going to be in the next ST movie. I think (could be wrong) that he meant he had spoken to Black about another film.

Didn't he say that they has no outline for a story yet?

I have nothing against Black, but I don't see him as ST material.

^^^ Thanks for the link to that article which fully explains how this went down...just terrible I tell you, terrible. That Gene R could be a real fuck huh? And those lyrics are just downright awful to top it all off.

Ya it was a pretty dirty trick Roddenberry pulled off to get money for Courage's theme.

Plus some of those words are hard to say at the notes they are at.
GR was just grabbing money.

singing the word 'Star-light' with an ascending pitch is hard

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Well...mostly no.

Jack is very talented and funny, he's great - in a certain type of role. I thought he was miscast in KK. He just doesn't have much range of expression. KB's better in something like High Fidelity where the impact of his delivery can carry a scene and subtlety isn't needed. I was absolutely fine with Simon Pegg as Scotty, but I wouldn't be thrilled about Black in a major role. In a shorter appearance - it could be fine.

PLEASe, JJ, no stunt casting. The beauty of XI's cast was that they could all ACT. I loved having great actors but very "names".

I am really disgusted by this.

He could play that tribble salesman dude.

I could see Black as Jones....because...er...he certainly has the build for it.

No, no, no, no, NO! As much as I like Jack Black, any future movies should take a cue from the success of Star Trek XI and cast relatively unknown actors with great talent and no previous baggage.

Baggage is only when people are incapable of separating the actor from the role or they only see the actor in a typecast way and don't understand that an actor, you know, acts.

Quoted from my own post here:

Alternatively, they might borrow individual elements from one or more original episodes and build something new out of them. Instead of another "heavy" villain, they might go with someone more like Harry Mudd. Not the cheeky, bumbling Harry Mudd from I, Mudd but the roguishly crafty and dangerous Harry Mudd from Mudd's Women. I can think of ways to create a very space operatic and fun adventure story around something like that, sort of a Pirates of the Carribbean in space.
That was from April 14th and I was dead-serious about the idea, though I really can't see Jack Black in the role. I don't dislike him but he gives the same basic performance in every role he plays and one that is not suitable to Harry Mudd, IMHO. Then again, I've seen other seemingly one-note actors break out of their usual mold and give surprisingly good performances, so I wouldn't rule Black out entirely.

In fact, another actor comes to mind who similarly never varies the performance he gives or the types of roles he plays, and that's Will Farrell. Generally, I can't stand the guy and find his brand of humor to be painfully unfunny, but more than once I've found myself wondering what he might be able to do with a different kind of role and some decent material. I'm picturing him with that handlebar mustache and a receding hairline and I have to admit the idea is... intriguing. If he could play clever and conniving as well as he can play loud and oblivious, maybe.
