After sneak preview night, I came in here an enthused that not only did they do an awesome casting in Pine, but they managed to find yet another guy who could have been Kirk.

Yes, he is 6'3", though.

He could have been Kirk, but I'd like to think they made the better casting choices the way they were, of course. ;) I get what you're saying though. (Really, the casting in this movie was so phenomenal. I think the only choice I didn't really "get" was young Kirk. And maybe Rider. But they were decent.)

Would Kirk be too different by being tall? I tend to think it wouldn't make that much of a difference if he was tall or short. That reminds me of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrLO-cp2IOc It looks like Pine could nuzzle Shatner in under his chin. Hee.

Speaking of physical difference: I was amused when I read back on this forum with the fans were all atwitter about Pine having blue eyes. And that he should wear contacts. Bite your tongue, people!

shh... I was one of them :p

PS. isn't it a fact that the older we get, the more we tend to shrink? our spines curve and we become shorter. Shatner is about 5-9, I think. how tall is Pine? about 6?

^ I'm glad. Gems like that should not go to waste.
And hey, Chris over load here! Chris Pine or Chris Hemsworth?

New thread topic: Who's hotter- Helmsworth or Pine?

That one will require lots and lots of pics.

a = b,
b = c,
a = c

Ack! English major. Do NOT try to get me to do math. :scream:

For shame! Pine got those piercing blue eyes from his dad. :D

Spot on. I lurve the surfer look. Admittedly though, he was far from surfer as Kirk's father. Surely you must have thought he was pretty good as far as daddies go?

Did I really bring daddies into the conversation? :p
LOL. Daddies are okay.
This thread is advancing so fast, I hopes you ladies didn't miss my big picture post, everybody was posting at the same time.

It's a syllogism. You learn that in high school philosophy class. ;)

Oops. Oh, but I can mock you a leettle for that, no?

I think we do shrink. Although I suspect Shat's not over 5'7" now. IMDB says Pine is 6'1", so I would say 6'0"-6'1" seems about right next to the other guys. (Bana is 6'2", right?)

yeah, I remember that post of yours, Jeri! :D

yes, I bet you it was the height that ruled him out of playing JTK. too tall compared to Spock and anyone else for that matter.
We are long timers here. I'm repeating myself over and over -- and you and Raytas remember it. I'm beginning to think I need Shatner's advice. Now, where did I put my life...

ria, those are all lovely! Thank you. I already cast my vote for the captain. As a teen, I used to like Spock; those are the days for sensitivity. But as I grew older, I began to see it was good to go with the power. ;)

I think I am one of the few who prefers Spock to Quinto, though. I like Quinto plenty; don't get me wrong. But I haven't lost all my teen sensitivity. And Spock was pretty darned nubile.

They must have taken some real garden shears to that boy, though. He has a massively thick head of hair and a dense, black beard. He must have had to shave every hour.

Oh, yeah, I didn't even get to the eyebrows. I read where he was worried about them, from shaving them off so much. He even asked Nimoy if they grew back, and Nimoy said that after a while, they didn't!

yeah, I think the Shatman has shrunk! :p

and yes you can mock me! I loved Shatner's eyes. I also love Pine's eyes... AND his eyebrows.

and no, I haven't voted. I refuse to! I can't choose. :(

yeah, for god's sakes... it's just a teevee show!!

seriously, thanks for all the pics and the laughs, dudettes. this thread is awesome!!

Maybe that was the real meaning of "this isn't your father's Star Trek". Perhaps they purposefully cast a closer Shat look-a-like for George Kirk, but then chose someone with perhaps a slightly different vibe for Jim Kirk. It might have been intentional. It might have been part of the theme of passing down the torch.

And Quinto at this point can just get his eyebrows ensured, because they are probably the most famous feature on his face. Fans even have a nickname for them ("Sybrows"). Hilariously enough, his first big film role is without them! Ah, so it was Nimoy who told him the contradictory information about whether his eyebrows would grow back (and in his words, they "grew back with a vengeance"). Though I don't think he has any trouble in the hair-growth department. Quite the opposite problem, in fact. Have you seen his arms. LMAO. Shaving every hour is probably accurate. And in well-lit promos of him supposedly clean-shaven, you can still see the stubble.

More Globes and UK premiere prettiness:

Ria: saw the picture post, but I did almost miss it. :bolian:

Crusher Disciple: don't fear the math. Although I suspect it's more that the intersect X (physical characteristics) of A and B is substantial, and the intersect Y of B and C is also substantial, but the intersect of A and C has few elements indeed. Hee.

I think it's the fact that you have this previously über-nasty super-villain suddenly showing up in a totally random scene enjoying a cup of vanilla ice cream. LMAO. Future "daddy" Sylar making waffles and acting like a '50s housewife was just as much of an adorable brain-f*ck for the same reason. Ditto with all the cute Sylar/Mr. Muggles (Mrs. Bennet's Pomeranian show dog) moments.

One thing you can say about ZQ is he is now equally famous for playing both a villain and a hero. His appearance does generally favor him for villain roles, but Spock has allowed him to get to be a good guy. And this Spock gets a love interest! It's certainly a step towards leading man roles.

Has anyone heard his Star Trek novelization tape narration? He is REALLY GOOD at doing character voices. His McCoy, the elder Vulcan, Kirk and Nero are all spot on (he sounds exactly like the actors). He even changes his voice for Nimoy-Spock, which was very interesting. It's not that he can't sound like Nimoy, but that he chose to sound like himself. His Chekov sounds like a dead-ringer for Bartok, the albino Russian cartoon bat from Anastasia--which is hysterical, though not particularly Yelchin-like. His Scotty isn't perfect, but it's hilarious. His female voices are just endlessly hilarious (orgasmic Gaila, for instance). He really managed to make scenes both very emotional and funny. But the voices really stand out (which is expected from all the accents like Southern and West Baltimore that he puts on for Heroes).

Here's a few Heroes/Sylar fanvids that I simply adore (he is deliciously evil and then there's dorky mama's boy Gabriel, too!):

Oh gawd, I want this novelization now, I want it so bad!! I've heard/read about it, but you describing it like that with the different voices he does etc, oh dear, I definitely need that! ;):bolian:
Interesting!

Wohooo, what do we have here! Pine's taking over right now. A lot!

This must be the best thread on this board at the moment!
"I like this thread! It's exciting" - slightly paraphrased. ;)

^^Oh my goodness, Nile, these pics are awesome! What do you wanna kill me!!? I know I should be in bed long ago...I have to get up and get ready for school in 3 hours - darn, 3 hours! - but I simply can't!! This discussion is far too good to be missed!

Thinking of it, I should probably really force myself to drag my eyes away from these Pintolicious pics and go to sleep. That'd be a good idea, otherwise I won't be able to survive through tomorrow - or, today, rather - which would be a shame, cause I wouldn't be able to enjoy any Pinto no more.

:wtf: Duh, sorry for the spam guys. Not a good idea staying up so late/early. I really need some sleep. See you. Good night! And behave while I'm away, will ya!

Just as good in uniform as out of it, strangely enough... Who'd have thunk? :p

Oh look, Dad Kirk! I liked him too.

Too many hot men in this movie! I still can't get over the fact that the dad looked like he could be Chris' real dad.

The longer hair just makes him look like he's in a boy band. But the close cut (and VERY Pine like) hair is hot. Just HOT!!!:bolian:

Mi gusta.

^ Honey, at this point, if Starfleet was real the amount of applications from female candidates would just overwhelm them.

Crap, I'd be the head housekeeper if I could get on board the Enterprise right now.

Not real? Does that mean I should rethink my trip to SF? I had flowers for laid out for myself and everything...
:(

LMAO

So true, I'd be signing up for the medical section and doing everything I can to be assigned to Enterprise. It seems they stock all the good looking men on there.

Can you imagine that entrance interview? "What made you decide to join Starfleet?"

Just hold up a pic of the crew of the Enterprise men...

When people ask me why I'm dressing up like Chapel I'm going to say first it's a tribute to Majel. Then I'll add "And you know who Chapel gets to work with? That's right. Bow chica wow wow!
