Would anyone care to provide the size of the Kelvin while we're at it? :D

    So... 762 metes... excellent.

Who wants to inform the guy on ex astris who's still under the deluded impression the ship is 302 metres?

Hey, Bernd is actually a pretty nice guy, and knows his Prime Universe Trek. He's just got blinders on vis a vis this issue. There are people I could name that have prominent websites that are a LOT worse than him.

I'm sure he is a nice guy, never said he wasn't, just that he was deluding himself if he honestly think it's only 300 metres.

I always thought the TMP shuttlebay was massive, looked like 3 levels just when kirk and scotty docked looks bigger than j.j enterprise. As some pointed out the use cgi now and can make things better fit to size, when you look at the shuttlebay in TFF is small comapred to TMP and its a new er ship

    Fair enough.

I've heard some others be NOT so generous, and I guess I projected it into what you were saying.

    My apologies.

FWIW, I don't understand all the panty knot-tying either. Different universe, different circumstances, different Big E. It's not like JJ is trying to say the Prime E was that big.

Actually, they already posted a render a while ago. The image of the new ship in that comparison is a cel-shaded render of the CG model (possibly the "hero" version), courtesy of Bad Robot/ILM.

Why is this so hard to accept for people?

That might be a just a little dangerous.

I have a feeling that if we get an official size of the Kelvin, then start comparing reference points & assumptions to the NuE you may wind up with a significantly smaller Enterprise than the purported 762m.

Then this tread would start all over again (or explode).

I tried a comparison similar to that a while back in the thread, and came up with 303m(995ft) for the Kelvin, but the relation seemed to force an educated guesstimate that the NuE was even smaller, down to 422m(1385ft).

Then, as expected, the BBS "powers that be" slammed me for even making the attempt.:brickwall:

Though I'm still holding my (tenuous) ground that the 457m(ish) I came up with would be a workable measurement.:nyah:

Is there some actual information that shows that that is truly an ILM produced image? The original article says nothing about the origin of the images used. It does say thanks to "David B" (who I guess is David Baronoff), but doesn't say for what (though I'm pretty sure it is the figure sited in the article).

There is not enough there to conclude that the image is from ILM or Bad Robot, or that it is either a CG version or the hero CG version of the ship based on that article. In fact if there was just the text "image courtesy of Bad Robot/ILM" anywhere, that would be helpful. As it is, the validity of that image seems a little suspect. :wtf:

Is there something better than what was said in that article? If not, then it really seems like we are talking about massive amounts of assumptions here.

Not this time,it won't.The debate is settled with the official length of 762 meters.
Since its been confirmed more or less, and no challenger has come up with a better system of calculation AND a drastically different measurement,I'd call this done.
Don't try to appeal because you don't like the number,or think the diagram you made is better.ILM says its 762 meters, and two others have calculated to within 5% of that number independently based on
    In screen footage.

Which is a lot better than the old TOS days when the main ship changed specs from scene to scene. Can you imagine a Trekbbs thread about the STIV bird of prey's dimensions? It would be 10 X 80.555632581 pages long...

BTW,keep in mind all measurements of other ships like the Kelvin/Narada need to be discussed in a separate thread.

I've been posting a whole mess of diagrams on another forum trying to figure out the size of the new Enterprise and I figured since this is a very similar discussion, I'd post some of my findings on here and see what you all think about them. After doing a whole study on the possible size of the new Enterprise, I am of the opinion the ship is actually much smaller than what most people seem to have accepted as fact. I am of the opinion the ship is somewhere in the range of 467meters to 610 meters...here are my findings..

First off I found this wonderful full color schematic of the Enterprise A (refit) at this page..http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints-main2.php. This schematic includes small figures that are in scale with the ship..
Then I took these same figures and I scaled them to fit what we see in different screen shots from the movie where we see figures (or shuttles) with the new Enterprise. It is my intention to see if the ship is shown in every shot in the same scale. I'm did this because in some shots the ship seems smaller (the construction scene when Kirk drives his motorcycle up to it) and others it seems MASSIVE (the shuttlebay scenes)...the next few posts will show my findings...

First off we have the Construction scene...if you look above the deflector you can see two welders directly in front and below the torpedo launchers...I scaled two figures to match the size that is shown in this screencap...

Now I kept it at this scale and went ahead and looked at several different areas of the ship to see if the visual evidence from the screencap were close to what we see on these diagrams...

^ The problem is, if you're estimate as to how big people are is even slightly off, it'll affect the end result, the length of the ship, by a massive amount.

    So that won't work.

Why can't we just go by the official statistics?? Ok granted there are two conflicting stats, but they're both in the 700's.

Now lets take a look at a shot from the teaser trailer that showed the Enterprise under construction...Using the same scale I took the figures and placed them about where they seemed to be in the screenshots I found..

Bridge Area...if you look directly to the left of the dome you can see a figure standing there. He seems to be just a little bit taller than the slant leading up to the dome...
    Now the diagram...
Seems to be pretty close to me...
