You gotta be extra hawt to shine thru that horrible stuff they slap on Spock - the uniform that makes him look scrawny, the sallow makeup and the (ugh ugh ugh) haircut. Good for him for not letting it all totally sabotage him!

IMO, one of the best things about the movie is the fact that they hired all these really handsome actors and then almost tried to hide the pretty. Spock mostly couldn't be helped (the character HAS to have the bowl cut and eyebrows), but McCoy seemed like an all-out (failed) attempt at making Urban look like a dork. Eric Freaking Bana is unrecognizable. And even Pine has odd looking hair and the movie makes no attempt to even out his skin (unusual for a lead in this kind of movie).

Zoe looked fabulous though, as she does in real life.

Yes, Quinto is handsomer than Spock, but Spock is sexy smart, so it all comes out that both in and out of character, he is mighty fine!

I still think Pine is gorgeous both in real life and as kirk.

RegentWorf, Here is a chick's analysis at another website of Chris's body language in that picture you used in your avatar: Chris has his large arms crossed over his heart. Which indicates a huge fear of getting his heart broken. He's also touching his neck for comfort, and looking into the camera, which means that he's aware of this insecurity and would probably tell it to a woman he trusts.

(That slide show was, of course, possibly posed by the photographer...)

I think you're right Jeri. I think Chris has a big heart. He just seems like a really decent person. He has good charisma with Quinto (as seen in that New Zealand interview they did). And he had a great sense of humour. He respects the fans. And has done his research when it comes to Star Trek. And he knew that he had to do more than just imitate William Shatner's Kirk. All those things just make me think he's an amazing actor and a sweet person.

That said, if the rumours that he is dating The Hills star Audrina Patridge are true, I don't know what to make of that. I've never actually watched the show, so I don't know what kind of girl she is. I just hope Chris would date someone who is deserving of a guy like him.

And I agree with the people who have said that Pine looks much better without the Photoshop airbrushing.

And I really do love this picture of Pine. I love the position of his arms. Even if it was "staged" by the photographer, a photographer can't fake what's behind those beautiful blue eyes (i.e. the soul) can they?

RegentWorf, oh, sorry; I corrected my post. It was another chick's evaluation, not mine. But I liked it. He seems like a really sweet fellow in his interviews and has good chemistry with Zach. It bodes well for future movies. I hear that he has broken it off with Audrina already, because she's a publicity hound -- and he's not.

Ah, sorry, I misinterpreted. I thought you were saying it was your perspective as a chick haha.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Chris told paparazzi where he was gonna be sometime? And he had some pink shoes and people complained about? Either way, publicity is part of the game. But The Hills is just not my cup of tea. Seems much to fake. And i think Chris is a more genuine person. Although what do we know, we have never met him. We can only go by what we've seen on-screen and how he behaves in his interviews. And my instinct is that he gives off a good vibe.

There were some pictures of him attending an acting class. I think it's sweet that he's still working on his skills. I think that's the mark of a true professional.

Not quite true. He, after filming a movie with Lindsay Lohan, made a comment about how he wouldn't want to be calling the paps when he went to a coffee shop.

Then when the paps (who take pictures of him at his home now) took pictures of him at a coffee shop, people called him a hypocrit. When, in reality, there's no way of knowing if he was followed there, called the paps, is being staked out by the paps, or not. Don't know, don't care, but that's where the story comes from.

I remember reading that interview. I think he was answering a question on how celebrity would affect his life and they asked him about Lindsay Lohan (his "Just My Luck" co-star). He said he would never call the paparazzi to tell them where he was like Lindsay's been rumored to do.

He really seems like a down-to-earth guy who's serious about his career and not about being a star.

Edit to add: miniglik beat me to it! :)

My mistake, I took for granted that he HAD called them. But you're right, we really shouldn't care about it anyway. It doesn't matter. Besides, we're all going to look at those lovely pics of Pine anyway
Oh and Pine is back in the lead :D

This is certainly a closer race than over at IMDb. Spock is winning by a landslide in their Spock vs. Kirk thread!

Perhaps it's a difference between long-time Trek fans and casual viewers of just the new film?

Nile, again, I suspect it's Quinto's very, VERY large group of fangirls voting him in.

Well, that's probably true. LOL. Sarmy was probably helping out. Though, I think McCoy was getting as many votes over there as Kirk, too.

McCoy and Spock are generally the most praised characters on that board (by both genders).

Speaking of... McCoy had the best dialog (as probably should be expected).

McCoy seems to have become the surprise third combatant in the fangirl threads. Yelchin's Chekov isn't doing so shabbily either!

McCoy should get votes. He's awesome, and Urban is beautiful.

Honestly, though, I have to admit to getting a little sick of this idea that preferring Spock makes you: edgier, more intellectual, more admirably nontraditional, etc. Or, alternately: everyone loves Spock because he's obviously wonderful.

I think: 1) that everyone should be able to prefer whatever character they want without it meaning anything about them, psychologically, except that maybe that's the character they prefer in this context. Yes, I LOVE nerds. I also like Kirk best. and 2) that internet polls shouldn't be PROOF of anything. Particularly in a situation like this, where basicly every single actor but Pine (and Anton, but he has two big movies at once) has an internet following already. Can like who we want to like. It's not WRONG. It's not also proof of some inferior tastes.

I agree completely. I love McCoy and Spock too, but I just like Captain Fine even better!

I think it's all in good fun. I don't remember anyone being accused of having inferior taste for liking Pine over Quinto.

I think my like for Pine is because I'm a nerd, so I wouldn't want to be with a nerdy Quinto. Does that make sense? Kinda like opposites attract. Maybe nerdy types are attracted to Kirk, and regular folk are attracted to nerdy Spock? Just a hypothesis.

Whoa! I've not heard that liking Spock makes you edgier or more intellectual? I would disagree, since all of the men (except Cupcake and engineer Olsen) are smart.

I also think we're all nerds since we're posting on a Star Trek board.:guffaw::guffaw: But so what?

Hee. I was very dramatic there. :alienblush: Sorry. No more late night posting after a leetle bit of wine and too much time talking to crazies on the internet (not here).

With what you describe, it's true that Spock should look ubber ugly (either played by Nimoy or Quinto) but...we are lots to find him good looking. That's puzzling

Oh dear, Ladies and Gentlemen, I have some bad news...
