Kirk cheating

starbuck

Captain
Captain
Kirk cheating in the prime time The Kobayashi Maru was the only cadet to beat the no win scenario he got a commendation for original thinking now you think all starfleet cadet would have heard of this yet saavik never knew about it,but the nukirk that cheated did not get a commendation for original thinking, and every one knew he cheated the test or when he is getting promotin to captian did the wipe the slate clean or gave him a comendation for cheating.

They probably wiped his slate clean in STXI.

In the prime universe, I could not see how they could give Kirk a commendation for cheating. That was one of the big gripes I had with it.

Not cheating, for original thinking.

"It had the virtue of never having been tried."

But we finally had the origin of Kirk's long and fabled tradition of outwitting computers!

He probably seduced it sometime before the test, too.

Obviously Kirk Prime had prepared a better defense than "Neener neener I beat yer test!"

And they don't specify what commendation Kirk receives at the end of the movie, so in my mind, he's being awarded for original thinking in the crisis.

Thing is, the point of the KM test is to see how you deal with a hopeless situation. Kirk's solution was to recognize that the you have to use all your resources. The KM test uses not just the simulated Klingons, but the computers running the simulation too. It is those computers that Kirk attacked. Part of warfare is not to let your enemy dictate the conditions of the engagement. That's why I think Kirk received a comendation for original thinking. However, now nobody else can use that tactic, because it wouldn't show anything. By being the first, Kirk showed initiative and original thinking. Q.E.D.

However, his trial was interrupted, and head of the Academy hastily called it, when usually these things are drawn out. I was expecting Kirk to come up with a witty and thoughtful retort to Spock (and really, Kirk handles himself quite calmly in the face of being called out), but then Vulcan sent out the distress call.

The commendation at the end is for original thinking on the Kobayashi Maru test.

Bones tells Jim earlier in the shuttle bay that the council will most likely rule in his favor; and so they did. The commendation is not mentioned for anything else. We know from past Trek that Kirk received one.

And in the novelization it says the commendation is for original thinking on the test; it's not canon, but it's a good answer.

I have it on good authority, the commendation at the end was not for original thinking... it was for survival after striking out with Uhura in the bar.

No, no.

You seduce the girl.

The girl adjusts the machine.

Get that backward just once, and you remember for a long time. ;)

Damn! That's what I get for copying off Tasha Yar's notes. Re: Do not have girl seduce machine!

The commendation could have been for his actions aboard the Enterprise (other than mutinying against Spock, of course). That's what I always assumed it was before I read the novelization. Saving Earth has to count for something, after all.

Throw some punctuation in there, and I'll give you a commendation for basic communication thinking.

Why do you say the new Kirk didn't get a commendation for original thinking? Because it wasn't specifically shown?

He was never shown using the toilet. Does that mean he doesn't pee?

Joe, who does

What i mean , is prime kirk do only close friends know he cheated as saavik had no idea that he did ,yet you think it would have went down in the history books as the only one to beat it. But new kirk, the who class and more know he has cheated on the test to win, unless prime kirk no one knew he had cheated.
