nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Earth!

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

you mean it's not?

#closes his shrine#
It is, so ignore him and please continue to make your monthly payments of faith to the Church of The Great Roddenberry. We also have a new Robau-meter, it only costs $34.999,95 so you'll be able to advance to level 6 of 47 of Trekness. Make sure you evict all those evil lucas-entityparts from your body!

But I want my SW AND my ST in the same body! I want them all together in a wibbly-wobbly ball of time relativity parallel quantum mechanicalness! I want Roddenberry and Lucas together in one, happy family.....

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

But, because the new movie shunts the old stuff into an alternate timeline and replaces it THIS IS Star Trek and it is YOU who are not a True Fan because Clearly you hate Star Trek, so there :p
Blasphemer! "Classic" Trek is not to be described as "old," nor does the new film move the classic Trek into an alternate timeline. Nay, this new film IS the alternate timeline. Classic Trek is, was, and always shall be the true timeline, with this a mere amusing diversion. So it has been said, so it shall be!

Unfortunately The Great Captains Robau NuKirk and NuPike have decreed the Classic stuff as alternate and they will obliterate any who go aganist said decree.

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

That's right -- nuTrek utterly destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Earth!

Roddenberry shared his vision of Earth and humanity, and JJ and crew ignored everything! The word of Roddenberry was dismissed!
Who cares? He's dead.

"TOS isn't really canon but is instead a grossly exaggerated version of events in which the crew were portrayed as larger than life and the events were distorted by a misguided Starfleet PR campaign."

Near about fell out of my chair :)

Here is Admiral Kirk's preface in the TMP novel written by Roddenberry:

... our five-year mission was so well documented, due to an ill-conceived notion by Starfleet that the return of the U.S.S. Enterprise merited public notice. Unfortunately, Starfleet’s enthusiasm affected even those who chronicled our adventures, and we were all painted somewhat larger than life, especially myself.

Eventually, I found that I had been fictionalized into some sort of “modern Ulysses” and it has been painful to see my command decisions of those years so widely applauded, whereas the plain facts are that ninety-four of our crew met violent deaths during those years-and many of them would still be alive if I had acted either more quickly or more wisely. Nor have I been as foolishly courageous as depicted. I have never happily invited injury; I have disliked in the extreme every duty circumstance which has required me to risk my life. But there appears to be something in the nature of depicters of popular events which leads them into the habit of exaggeration. As a result, I became determined that if I ever again found myself involved in an affair attracting public attention, I would insist that some way be found to tell the story more accurately.

Thus, TOS isn't canon according to the word of Roddenberry. TMP, especially its novelization, is the "accurate" portrayal of the Trek universe.

People, people why must the worshipers of Roddenberry and Abrams fight, we must realize that Abrams didn't destroy Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century, he has saved it FROM Roddenberry, do you not realize that the crazy too Liberal liberals had in fact brainwashed Roddenberry to turn Star Trek into utter crap to destroy its awesomeness and then did the same to Braga and Bermen when it was getting good again (how else do you explain the watered down TNG rehasing and disowning of DS9), so do not freak out rejoice for Abrams has restored Trek to its awesomeness and destroyed the vile technobabble and Starfleet always = right moral BS as well as the wussy starfleet captains who get their asses kicked.

:wtf: I think I semi-agree with some minor points, but then again...what??

Does anyone think Roddenberry was taking a potshot at Shatner with this?

Non crazy fan or parody crazy fan translation for those confused:

Abrams took Trek back to its roots as a shock to the Canonites and Trek Fanatics, fun Space Adventure (seriously its not some holy work of art its a fun TV show) instead of Roddenberry taking it too seriously and going too far with the batter humans angle as well as Berman and Braga taking the later Trek from good shows to creatively bankrupt ones because shock to the B&B bashers they started to become burnt out after 14-25 years (depending on opinions of Voyager and Enterprise) and bogged down in canon clinging to the smallest thing. Because you see its NOT about the canon or the set and ship designs, ideas about humans of that era, military protocal, or even certain planets, (though your free to like for those things) its about the characters and there adventures, and thats what the new movie captures.

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

Reagan has a lot to answer for.
It's Regan's fault that the phrase "love instructor" sounds laughable? Er... no. This has nothing to do with anyone's personal views on sex. It's that the phrase just sounds silly.

No, he's got a point-Regan & Bush do have a lot to answer for, along with Thatcher & Mulroney (Kohl & Mitterrand, not so much.) Add to the first four the Liberty Foundation, Focus On The Family, the Catholic Church, Islam, Judaism, Andrea Dworkin & most of the radical feminist blogsphere (including people like Allecto-she of the infamous 'Joss Whedon Is a Rapist' trope). Whatever they've done has made this so, in a sense.:vulcan:

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

...?

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that Roddenberry wasn't all that. How about some love for Berman?

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

Berman, to his credit did right by TNG for the first few seasons of it, but it started getting weak in season 6 and bottomed out in season 7.

The we had Ron Moore cut his teeth on Ds9 (which I found more interesting, inspite of the strictures put upon the writing team).

The Less said of Voyager the better, and Enterprise had only one good season (the last one, ignoring last epsiode)

Re: nuTrek destroys Roddenberry’s vision of 23rd-century humans and Ea

I've never quite got how people think TNG was substantially worse in season 7. It had a couple of weak episodes, and quite a few cracking ones. Either way, it was as good as the several seasons preceding it, and certainly slick, excellent Trek compared to the first and second.

Isn't there supposed to be a 'keep the politics in TNZ' rule?
