Famke Janssen or Terry Farrell ?

I don't see any way anyone could possibly have been worse than Terry Farrell, therefore, I pick Famke Janssen.

However, I don't think Janssen is a particularly good actress either...

Maybe you just dislike beautiful dark-haired women?

It's not like Dax added anything to the show or was relevant to the plot in any way whatsoever anyways.

One of Starfleets senior officers on DS9 (before Worf, perhaps most senior after Sisko?) and a capable pilot and commander of the Defiant; an old mentor of the Emissary who he often turned to for guidance; again, a senior officer on the station and with centuries of experience.

Re:OP, nah, I quite liked Farrell. Janssen is great, but Farrell did a good job with the Errol Flynn-esque aspects of Dax where Jannsen is much more serious. Though perhaps as a Trill guest-star....

Any of the overall plots of the series. Ie: the Bajor/Federation dynamic, the Dominion War, the Emissary, the general operation of the station, etc. etc. Jadzia and Ezri are pretty much the only characters on the show who perform no notable function relevant to the show which might justify their screen presence.

So, what exactly is Chief O'Brien's relevance to the overall plots of the series? What is Bashir's? What's Worf's?

[Disillusioned]

The original concept of Dax as a science officer and a young woman wise beyond her years thanks to the Dax symbiont appealed to me. I just wish the writers could have figured out how to pull it off.

I would've liked to have seen Nicole DeBoer play Jadzia from the beginning. I think she would've worked better as the "old man in a young woman's body" persona than Farrell.

I think Famke would've been a fascinating choice, but her sensuality would've made Jadzia a different character. (Less Spock, more Kamala.)

I'd rather see Megan Ewing as Dax. Her mouth is a bit strange, but at least she's got freckles.

I don't think the main problem is the actress rather the writer so even if you cloned Grace Kelly at her acting peak to appear it wouldn't make any difference. All it would change is that some people might find the character physically more attractive.

As For Famke Janssen I've only seen her in a few things with X-Men been my main reference point and I was extremely underwhelmed by her in that so acting wise I wouldn't want her over Farrell. Physically I don't think she is more attractive than Terry either, so I'd stick with Farrell.

I agree with Jono, Terry Ferrell was fine, once the writers dialed her character in everything was ok. I really don't like Famke Janssen's acting.

I'm happy with what we had.

On a barely related note, I saw Back to School yesterday, and Terry Farrell is unbelievably gorgeous in that movie.

And I saw 100 Feet the other day. Famke Janssen's performance was probably the best thing about the movie. At least for me.
