The First Season Re-Mastered. My Views

I have been going through the HD remastered Season 1 as well, and have been enjoying them a lot. It's been a few years since I've watched these! :rommie:

They look AMAZING! :techman:

I agree completely that the redone fx are not nearly as intrusive as I was expecting. Wow, once I got used to them.. with the insanely great clarity + the redone shots, this is now the only way I wish to view TOS anymore.

My early vote for most hilarious ep of all time is The Alternative Factor. :guffaw:

I watched that one so many times when I was a kid (I'm 35 now), that I actually knew several lines by heart. Hysterical stuff, this one. How many times does Lazarus fall and scream? I want facts, not poetry!!!

Can't wait for the Blue Ray releases of s2 and s3.

Yeah, it bugs me that they arent in production order. The airdate order was really screwy, and TOS really should be seen in production order, in my opinion.

Anyway, I cant wait to get the sets myself.

As you will have heard TOS has been incredibly re-mastered and to such an extent it looks like it's just been made. My kids absolutely love it and are amazed to learn it was first shown way back in 1966, which demonstrates to me that new generations are ready to embrace this wonderful series therefore ensuring its longevity for a long, long time to come.

When you finally get your hands on TOS you will not be disappointed.

Tell you what, there are some really cool documentaries on this too, one explaining how they actually set about cleaning the whole thing up which make one even appreciate more the efforts gone into this.

Go get it!

Well how wonderful that your kids are enjoying TOS! May I ask how old they are? I'm sure everybody is sick of hearing this....but I got my nephew(s) into TOS too...the original version and they loved it....they loved TAS too! I'm so glad this 40+ year show is withstanding the test of time. I think it has aged quite well...touched up or not....the series is still just as relevant today as it was in the 60's.

i dont really care what order the shows are released in (airdate vs production date). This seems to be an issue when ever they put the show out (on VHS and DVD). I'm just glad that Paramount gave us BLURAY trek at all. Thats my opinion at least.

Has anyone seen the Blu-Ray yet?

I haven't but I can't see how it's going to be any better visually than the one we're discussing. However, I have heard that one of the cool options the Bluray version provides is the ability to watch the original, unremastered version if you want so you can easily switch between the two versions, this might be handy for the ultra purists who only want to watch TOS in its original condition.

But what of those of us who want to watch a remastered TOS without out of place CGI effects slopped all over it?

Oh, we already know the answer to this one. A whole new BLURAY set in three more years...

You can watch the episodes with the old effects on this one too...

But can you watch the entire old episode in HIDEF with the old effects too? Meaning are both versions in HIDEF, just with two different sets of FX shots?

So bad it's hysterical. It's in at least the top 5. Sometimes I love that though, making this horrible ep one of my favs. :rommie: Oh this one REALLY doesn't hold up.

The ideas behind it are cool though, this was the first introduction of Parallel Universes, paving the way for the far superior Mirror, Mirror.

What's great is this ep was aired 1 week before The City on The Edge of Forever, which is really really interesting. They went from Parallel Universes to alternate histories. City holds up very well mostly, whereas Alternative Factor is just a steaming pile of camp.

But, like TREK V, I still like to watch it from time to time. Sure, I sit there with an expression on my face of "what the hell is going on". My wife noticed it when we last watched it several years ago. Well..news to wife...we will be watching it again. So prep the Captain Morgan's!!!

LOL I just made a little thread about this episode...you are definitely needed over there. I can agree that the concept could of been good ....but my god the execution... LOL steaming pile of camp....I thought I read steaming pile of crap at first.

Yup! And sometimes I watch Trek V too, because silly Trek is great.

Since Trek is silly :guffaw:.

Then we get a few really hairy episodes that remind us that Trek can be serious as hell too!

That's the beauty of it all.

And I do like the serious ones. PALEMOON LIGHT and OFFSPRING and MEASURE OF A MAN and VISITOR are all serious..but are among TREK's best treks.

Oh most definitely! :techman:

Measure of a Man was the first good TNG ep.

The Visitor imo is the best Ds9 ep there was. :techman:

Bri :rommie:

Agreed on both accounds. In fact, when I list my favorite TREK episodes of all time, they are usually non-effects episode. Measure of Man, The Visitor, Pale Moonlight, The Offspring, Tapestry, Inner Light, City on the Edge of Forever, to name a few, are all episodes that are character driven, which to me, represents Trek at it's best.
