New TenDoc animation

According to the new DWM #409 - Dreamland is an animated serial of six minute episodes with Tennant, Georgia Moffatt (*not* as Jenny), David Warner and Lisa Bowerman (whether she's Benny or not they don't say).

^To use a talented performer who's familiar to the devoted fans? You might as well ask why Anthony Head wasn't playing Mr Finch in "The Ultimate Quest."

what makes you think that I didnt?

seriously now, if this is David Tennant, shouldnt they be getting a move on & filming this, as the longer they leave it, the more its going to clash with Matt Smith / S5, and its been said many times before, we need a clean slate for S5, not have Tennant still playing the Doctor at the same time. I am guessing this might air in the new year before S5 starts

According to DenofGeek it debuts in the Autumn. It doesn't say if the animation is the same style as The Infinite Quest but I hope so; I thought that was excellent even if the story - mainly due to the limitation of the format - wasn't. At least this story has slightly longer episodes which should make for a better flow to the plot.

Well, it's animation, so there's no "filming" as such, and Tennant can record his part of it in a day or two. And I'm sure it'll air before Tennant's finale at the New Year, and thus well before series five.

Seriously, Wamdue, do you think that audiences can't embrace two different Doctors at once? Star Trek fandom didn't rend itself to pieces in 1987-1991 when there were 23rd-century movies and 24th-century television episodes ongoing simultaneously. Give the audience a little credit.

its not the same, there is only ONE Doctor, and Matt Smith needs to be THAT Doctor, having the much love Tennant around at the same time as Smith, is only going to make people less willing to accpet him as the Doctor.

The only thing he might appear in after his Regeneration is a film and that wouldn't appear until after Series 5 has aired at the very earliest. In Smith can't establish himself after 13 episodes then he never deserved the job in the first place.

(Plus it most definitely is treating people as stupid to assume they can't cope with more than one Doctor at a time.)

It still seems a bit unfair to the new Doctor though. Sort of a "We know Smith is the Doctor. But nevermind that. We know who you REALLY want to see!"

But boy. TV shorts, movies, guest appearances on SJA. Makes you wonder if his quitting was all his agents idea.

Agreed, despite what some people might say. It's be like having Craig and Brosnan playing Bond at the same time (Or Moore and Connery which we did have one year) If Tennant wants to go off and do audios which--no offence--are listened to by a small minorty of fans of the TV series, then fine, but right now it's like he wants to have his cake and eat it. He wants to still be Doctor Who, but he wants to do other things/have a film career etc into the bargain. Frankly he shouldn't have the choice to do both. Pick one and live with your decision.

The show isn't Dr Tennant

It isn't RTD Who

It's Dr Who, and as from next year Matt smith needs to be THE Doctor. Not the Doctor on the telly, not the Doctor we watch while we're waiting for Tennant to come back. THE DOCTOR!

it does make you wonder if he is regretting his decision, and trying to do as much as he can to make up for it.

that is good to know, the question now is, what is the 3rd top secert project

Children in Need 2009, I'm sure.
that is one of the top theories.

not the Doctor we watch while we're waiting for Tennant to come back. THE DOCTOR!
you mean that is still an option? ;)

its probaly a good thing they didnt bring Tom Baker back, as was suggested at one point in the Classic Who run, or people really could be waiting for Tennant to return, and he probaly would.

Well, all these projects except the movie will be airing before the remaining three specials, and they were probably conceived as a way to keep the programme in the public eye during the long gap between "Planet of the Dead" and "The Waters of Mars." Once Smith debuts, he's going to be the Doctor for a good long time, long enough for him to succeed or fail on his own merits. No one except fans will even be talking about a movie for another year or more. It's our curse to find out about things in advance and then complain that they're all happening so soon.
He wants to still be Doctor Who, but he wants to do other things/have a film career etc into the bargain.
Any other deep insights into his thought processes you'd like to share, o reader of minds?

People complained when Tennant had the audacity to ask for specials rather than do a full series. Now they complain when he does small projects that alleviate the absence of Who, and has the effrontery to possibly maybe consider headlining a movie when he's the only actor who could do so.

Two out of three of which will appear while he's still the current Doctor.

And if there is going to be a film, you can be damn sure it's BBC who are pushing for it to get done, rather than being some vanity project of Davies/Tennant as some seem to think.

I think everyone's reading way more into these projects than is actually there.
