To Mr. Bob Orci,

As a Star Trek fan who was literally born the same year TNG went on the air and went on to grow up on it I have to say you have my immense gratitude for creating this amazing movie. Thank you along with the rest of the 'supreme court' for making Trek relevant again... especially towards people in their twenties or younger who never had the opportunity to get into it when they were kids while watching Ninja Turtles or Power Rangers like I did. It was an amazing experience watching Trek with good friends of mine who didn't know Trek, be introduced to it, and see them love it.

Regarding Khan as a future villain,

Khan has been a rumored potential future storyline. Back when the TOS 'Space Seed' episode aired Ricardo Montalban did an amazing job portraying the East Indian character of Khan Noonien Singh. Of course, back then there was a short supply of talented Indian actors in the U.S. One neat thing I hope you guys would kick around is a major bollywood star. Amitabh Bachchan is a name well known throughout most of Asia and would increase viewers of Trek immensely throughout the entire region. His presence in advertisements alone in India is profound itself. The man is simply a legend in Asia.

It could be Trek's Heath Ledger to the Joker.

I think it would work out better than attempting to recast Ricardo Montalban.

This is why I hate the idea of doing a movie about the early years of Kirk and Company. And the altered timeline scenario. It's so damn unimaginative.

As great as Khan is and was, the character should be left alone IMHO. It's very tempting to revisit Khan, but like the Borg, all you would do is piss off a huge segment of the fanbase. Granted I realize the fanbase is not as important now, it's the masses that are the primary target, but still it seem like such a marketing stunt to bring that character back. There's a galaxy of stories to explore, but we just have to go back to Khan?

And his East Indian hertiage, they made note of it in the original episode, but for some reason it seemed to be put on the back burner in TWOK. Khan himself seemed to magically lighten his skin from his TOS apperance and his followers all became blonde hair blue eyed people. I can understand the the angle they were going for here, the Nazis ideal of the supreme race, but it did sorta ignore that he was an Indian guy at first. Though nothing is said really to contradict he isn't still an Indian guy, but his followers went from looking Italian/Greek to looking Swedish. He went from looking Indian/Spainiard in TOS to looking more of an indiscriminate Spainiard in TWOK.

The only way i would want to see Khan in the sequel is in the following scenario:
The film opens to a slow zoom out to reveal the Enterprise moving slowly through a debris field, mechanical parts glancing off the shields.
<Cuts to bridge,>
Spock: The debris appears to be the remains of an Earth sleeper ship, the 'Botany Bay'.
As he speaks, the corpse of Khan slams into the viewscreen
Kirk: My god...somebody clean that up...
<Cut to title.>

Maybe Abrams was trying to be diplomatic in saying using Khan could be a good idea. The new man in charge can't diss the supervillain of all Trek time. But, I hope he has no real intent of even exploring the possibility. If this is all they truly can come up with, if they can only be derivative of what came before, then they are either incredibly lazy or the franchise is truly devoid of new territory to mine. I don't want to think either of those last two things are true.

Considering how many of the Star Trek films are vague remakes of The Wrath of Khan, I wouldn't be surprised if they just go for broke and refilm the thing with new actors. Of course, the themes of ageing and missed opportunities won't make much sense, but with some minor tweaking . . .
