The role of currency in the new Star Trek

Starfleet officers have accounts which get credited everyday which they then use to get things they need.
Perhaps she used her debit card?

Very possible. Also, in the TNG pilot, Crusher was buying some fabric and she said something about "put it on my account".

Also, there was one TNG ep where Riker was trying to get information from Quark. Riker cashed in all of his Federation credit vouchers to pay Quark for it.

Go look up "Star Trek Mistakes" on Youtube. There are hundreds of contradictions on money in the other series.

I thought the whole, "there's no money in the 24th century" crap was stupid. Money is actually one of the greatest inventions of mankind. Money ensures that in order to receive the benefits of society, you also have to be a participant. It also allows us to offer our services to one area, and receive credit to purchase items in other areas of the economy. Otherwise we'd be on the barter system.

Not sure about the no money thing in the 24th century. I do recall the line "the accumulation of wealth is no longer the driving force...." in FC when Lily asks the how much did this cost question, while getting the tour of the Enterprise from the Captain himself, which only suggests that money is no longer numero uno but now takes a back seat to knowledge and things of that order. I kinda like that idea.

Of course, they had other problems while having the how much conversation --- 39.1 degrees, etc.

NOG
It's my money, Jake. If you want
to bid at this auction, use your
own money.

JAKE
I'm Human, I don't have any money.

NOG
It's not my fault that your
species decided to abandon
currency-based economics in favor
of some philosophy of self-
enhancement.

JAKE
(defensive)
Hey, watch it. There's nothing
wrong with our philosophy.
(with pride)
We work to better ourselves and
the rest of Humanity.

NOG
(confused)
What does that mean exactly?

JAKE
It means...
(reaching)
... it means we don't need money.

NOG
Well if you don't need money, then
you certainly don't need mine.

Nog has a point.
