Was It Possible To Please Even More Trek Fans?

Right now the public is loving the new movie and also the Trek fans.....for the most part. What I'm wondering is could they have struck such a delicate and wonderful balance AND got more of the hardcore fans on their side?

No, I think not.

All things considered and if the polls and review sites are taken into account, I believe they have already pleased more Trek fans than anyone could have ever thought possible.
Isn't it about 80-90 % that likes this movie ?

Nope, the people bashing it didn't want to like it. You just have to look at some of the reasons they're bashing it.

Right now the public is loving the new movie and also the Trek fans.....again, for the most part. What I'm wondering is could they have struck such a delicate and wonderful balance AND got more of the hardcore fans on their side?

No.

They got - by every poll and quantifiable means of estimating this that you can find (as opposed to counting fifteen posts by two people as "fifteen objections") between 85 and 95 percent of the hardcore fans on board with this.

That's really good, considering that for the movie to succeed they needed to concentrate on getting new viewers to come to see it.

Yes, if they had had a scene where Kirk actually is studying a few of the hardcore TOS fans would have liked it.

No. Absolutely not. Segments of fandom are never, ever going to be satisfied, period. It's a mistake to even try.

The only way I could've been more pleased would've been with a few more references rather than just minor ones. Like in the Spock future ship when he asks its manufacturing origin, it should've mentioned Geordi, but the scene still goes exactly the same without him reacting to the name at all.

This is about as close to unified as Trekdom gets. Sure, if they had cleaned up a few minor errors and commisions we might have ticked it up another 2-4% in the poll, but most of the detractors seem to be using canon as justification for some deeper gut-level reaction. Bottom line, it's change, and there is always going a certain percentage of the populace that rejects that change.

No. Quite frankly I didn't think it would be possible to get THIS many Trek fans in agreement about enjoying the movie.

J.

yes i tend to agree its swings and roundabouts: if they would have changed it they may have gained more but then lost others.

Just think how much better the movie would've been and loved by the TRUE Star Trek fans if, instead of the "three years later" caption, they would've actually given us three straight years of Kirk walking around with a stack of books while having to deal with Finnegan and Mitchell in ways that have absolutely nothing to do with the plot!!!!
