Captain
Captain
The survey I opened about pirating ST11 is complete. My target number was 100 and I've collected all the responses (thank you all very much). I will parse the data over the next few days, but the basic data is as follows:

Question 1: Have you pirated songs from the internet before?
Yes: 70%
No: 30%

Question 2: Have you pirated movies from the internet before?
Yes: 61%
No: 39%

Question 3: Have you pirated Star Trek media from the internet (excluding the new movie)?
Yes: 45%
No: 55%

Question 4: Have you pirated the new Star Trek movie?
Yes: 34%
No: 66%

Again, thank you all for participating and I'll be back with more of a breakdown soon.

Members: Please don't come in and discuss the issue. I don't want you to give the mods an excuse.

Mods: I still can't PM anyone about anything. I would still post the data myself to the public forum. Please don't continue to close threads. And for Pete's sake, this isn't spam.

Yes, the Trek XI forum was just crying out for a poll on who has downloaded music.

What is the point of your survey? And how was it conducted?

The point of this is to antagonise the forum's owners who've closed 3-4 of his threads, prompting him to cry "free speech" like a petulant child, evidently not understanding that these are their forums, and they'll administer them however and whenever the fuck they want to, without his prior approval.

No, spam is posting the same thing again (and again and again) when asked not to.

Closing Thread #1, Akiraprise said:
The OP can PM me with his poll results if he/she so wishes. Until that time this thread is closed. A debate over pirating property doesn't belong in the Trek XI forum anyway.

Bottom Line: If you've downloaded a copy of this flick you've stolen it. The TrekBBS wants nothing to do with that.
(emphasis mine)

The upshot of this is that he indicated that he would be willing to add the poll results to the end of the original thread when the poll was completed. If you do not have PM capability, other means exist.

In closing Thread #2, I said:
No discussions. I don't want this thread closed. Just hop over and hit the survey. No debates.

I wanted to get an honest assessment of pirated Trek media from users of this site. To avoid anyone having access to names or accounts, I've set up a survey over on SurveyMonkey. Nothing too detailed, just four questions. Please take a few seconds to hop over and be honest.

While I do really appreciate the responses (and survey hits), I don't want this to turn into a moral debate. If that's a discussion people are interested in having, please start a separate thread.

Again, SurveyMonkey is anonymous, so please be honest. I will only post the numbers and percents as that's all the info I get from the survey.

Check out the survey here.
Overgeeked, when Akiraprise closed the other thread, he said this:

...

and I don't think that starting another thread quite fits with that. The links to your survey should still function, and people will be able to participate, but this will need to be closed, as well.
This should have reinforced the idea that starting a new thread to replace the closed one was not the right course of action. Apparently it did not.

In closing Thread #3, Akiraprise said these things:

M'Sharak: read what Akiraprise wrote again. He closed the first thread because it became a debate concerning the morality of piracy. Which is exactly why I started a new thread and asked that there be no debate. If there's no debate concerning the topic, then it shouldn't be an issue, and therefore no need to close the thread.

The second thread contained no debate as to the topic, and therefore shouldn't have been closed.

This is a public forum, and I will post the public results of the public survey to the public forum, not PM a single mod or PM everyone who wants to know. The entire point of this is to get the information out there, not to hide it or pretend it doesn't exist.

Oh, and I can't PM for another week. I'm still new.

The survey's still up.
I would have posted the results in your original thread and reopened it when the poll is completed. I still will. But do not start another thread on this or you'll be getting a spamming warning.

Overgeeked, you can put the link in your signature, and when the survey is complete, show the link to the results as well. That might work.

J.

This is a great idea.

^ Which is exactly why it isn't a discussion, nor was it meant to be a discussion. Simply a gathering and presentation of information.
Why can't the thread stay closed then? I'm sure the mods were going to re-open it for you to post the results of the poll.
I still will.
This is twice now he's told you that he would be willing to add your poll results to the original thread and that starting new threads is not the way to go.

So you started a new (pretty much over-the-top) thread...
Wow. Can't even let a discussion about whether thread should be closed happen. Why the hell are you afraid of free speech?

This one gets you a warning for spamming.
...and got a warning for it, exactly as he had said would happen.

Now, since Akiraprise is not here at the moment, I will add the results of your poll to the original thread, as he promised he would. I'll even bump it a couple of times so that others may read the results.

I will hold off on taking any further action until I've had a chance to speak with him, bit in starting yet another new thread, you've left yourself open to another possible spamming warning. To reiterate: spam is not only necessarily the content itself, but the repeated posting of something when asked by a member of board staff not to do so. This you have done.

Thread closed. Please do not start another on this topic.
