Hopefully we'll find out what species this thing is in the next movie. For all we know, Scotty found him on Delta Vega as an abandoned orphan or something and even HE doesn't know where the hell he comes from.

Did they go a little too far by introducing Keenser?
For those of you who haven't picked up on it yet, "Keenser" is the name of the little green guy who worked with Scotty on Delta Vega and eventually ended up on the Enterprise.
I've got to say that his addition did stike me (a little after the fact) as being too "cute". (For example, him tending to climb on things and Scotty yelling at him to get down. Keenser's not a kid or an intelligent animal. He's supposed to be a Starfleet officer.)
Did we really need our own version of an Ewok? I don't care what excuse they offer. I mean, he's here now, and let's not get rid of him, but did we really need Keenser? I don't think so.

I liked Keenser. I'm just not sure if it's male, female, young or old.
Well, I can't feel much of anything for him yet; if they develop some kind of a story for him, then I'll get back to you.
My husband thinks the character is played by a child; he notes that Chris Pine reaches up to help him down off the transporter frame, whereas an adult of small stature would get down under their own power.

Keenser was played by the Charlie and the Chocolate factory dude, who also played an Ewok and Droopy McCool from Star Wars. Righteous.

Ever notice how everyone in the theater seems to react in a like manner to how the poster feels about something? Like everyone laughs at the jokes they liked, and no one reacted at the scene they didn't care about and so on.
Anyway, I'm indifferent to the sidekick himself but I liked the opportunities it provided for Pegg to play off him.

I agree! Well done. Cute is something Trek could use more of.

And my two cents, i understand why JJ put him in there, but i seriously could have lived without it. For me, personally, it WAS a Jar Jar thing.
